DzM, why does it say: Registered users: Google [Bot], Johan From Sweden, Yahoo [Bot] in the users with some usersers "within" the [ ] and someones outside?

Nothing major just a question.

This version of the software recognizes the search engine spiders and labels them as such. When you see Google and Yahoo! there, it's because their spiders have been crawling the fora within the last five minutes.

I'm not sure what you're asking with the latter half of your question. Sometimes in the brackets? Sometimes not in the brackets? Come again?

OK now i understand. like "Alex" came before Google and so on...... but i understand that it´s in alphbetic order now that i know why Google and Yahoo is there.

Thanks

I must be the only one who dislikes the new look, but I do. This new version of phpBB that everyone seems to be using looks too much like ProBoards, Ezboards and a lot of the other cheap free boards instead of the classic phpBB look that I always liked.

No, others have also expressed dislike for the new look.

The phpBB3 default theme is what many are using, and it's the foundation of the Medusa theme too. As time permits I'm changing elements to more closely reflect what we've been used to here, but it will never look exactly as it did (which I'm rather glad of, actually - I was never real happy with that older template).

As far as the default theme looking much like the other systems, that's to a certain extent dictated by the nature of the software. How many ways are there to present a top-to-bottom list of posts replying to each other? Fundamentally all those packages are doing the same time, and the biggest differences are behind the scenes or are cosmetic.

At any rate - The new theming engine is much more versatile than the old one. As time goes on the theme will evolve to more closely reflect what we, as a group, determine works for us.

(And thank you, everyone, for your suggestions pointing out what works, what doesn't, etc. While I haven't responded to each post, I do read them all and appreciate your positive and negative feedback. Please keep it coming in. I can't promise I'll change everything that you're asking to be changed, but if I don't know about something then I guarantee that it won't get changed.)

I just noticed something and was just wondering.

Under the section at the bottom, 'Who Is Online' where it has the usual list of registered users, why do I get Google (Bot), MSN (Bot), Yahoo (Bot) among the list of names?

But I do find it funny that the spiders are considered "registered users". :)

DzM: I think that what would do work, would be to "warm up" the site a little - i.e. less icy blue, and not so light brown (or whatever the color is) - maybe you could try to add some wooden texture - maybe some lighter wood with bronze-ish parts could look nice.

Theme changes coming. Really!

Post Mon Feb 04, 2008 9:05 pm

I'm continuing in my efforts to make the overall theme more palatable (Near-pun! Oh no!) to everyone, including myself.

Just so you guys know that I'm working on it, right now I'm at the point where I've actually got a base color palette selected and will be using it as the building blocks for the colors throughout the fora. This may not sound like much, but trust me - this is hard.

For those of you that feel like critiquing (and for the amusement of JennyLois, our only publicly confessed graphic artist), this is the palette:

I'm not a graphic artist, and everyone's a critic, but would it be possible to drop either the first or the fourth colour? Pink or that yellow-brown-whatever-it-is colour? For me they don't work together. Maybe other people would disagree, and I would bow to consensus, but . . .

As far as the new site is concerned, it really is nicely usable, DzM.
