How long has Joe Strummer sung for the Pogues and are there any recordings of it?

After Shane was made to leave the band in 1991, Strummer filled in as lead vocalist for subsequent tours. He left in 1992 and Spider Stacey took over on vocals. A bit more info and a pic of Strummer and Shane here
And here you can listen to London Calling performed by the Pogues with JS.

I would kill for a good quality recording of Joe & The Pogues performing Straight To Hell (this was part of the set list during the Hell's Ditch tour).

I do have a bootleg with Joe (I believe I got it from the ftp). But it is not a great recording (something wrong in the middle)

Yeah, I got that one too. I do have a fine quality 'Turkish Song of the Damned' with Joe on vocals.

When I was sick in late 1987, I taught Joe all the guitar parts in an afternoon and he was on tour in the USA as deputy guitarist the next day. When we could not find an empathetic producer for "Hell's Ditch" in 1990, Joe again heeded the call at short notice. Inevitably, he was always going to be the person we turned to when we needed a new front man at short notice.

Was Joe Strummer a Pogue?? Hell, yeah!!

Joe wrote all the tabs in his meticulously neat hand on a long piece of paper which he taped to the top of the guitar so he could glance down occasionally when he was onstage. Funny, I just found it recently and am planning on getting it professionally mounted and framed!

You ought to talk to Alex. On his site he lists that he has a recording with "very good sound quality" from 10-26-91 in France. He lists Straight to Hell in the setlist. Maybe if you ask nicely or send him some cookies he'll shoot you an Mp3.
