Amplification...

Post Tue Apr 17, 2007 11:08 pm

Hey, wondering if anyone on the board, or possibly one of the pogues members on here knows what Terry uses to amplify his cittern?
Does he plug into a guitar amp? or use a preamp directly into the PA system?
Any info on this would be great,
-Ben

He uses two amps, one for the Cittern/Mandola and one for his mandolins, and I think Paul Scully out front takes D.I. signals from stageboxes also and combines the feed with the miked-up amp sound on his mixer. Terry recently bought two new stage amps which are apparently specially designed for amplified "acoustic" instruments, but the manufacturer's name escapes me. I know only that they cost the earth.

I would like to know the best way to mic my octave mando up .. They dont generally come with pick ups do they?
I have an italian one that i bought second hand annd i really like the sound. I want to play this in my band now instead of mandolin cos my fingers are too fat for mandolin!
It does have a hole in the end where a plug could have been fitted at some point.

I've got a Fender FMO-66 octave mandolin http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-FMO- ... 1148618.gc
which has a built-in bridge pickup. I know there are lots of aftermarket bridge pickups that can be added with minimal drilling and wiring.

I haven't tried miking it, but can't you just stick a mic in front of it as for an acoustic guitar?

I found my hands get cramped after a while with a regular mandolin, but the octave lets me stretch my fingers!
...ain't it funny how you used to know everybody in these parts...
