Terry Woods with The Mahones

Post Wed Apr 27, 2005 12:01 am

I'm happy to be posting that on http://www.themahones.net/ they've reported that they have Canadian dates planned in July/Aug. with Terry Woods. :D

For those of you who missed this combo in the Great North the last time they came round, it's not to be missed...

Who are The Mahone? Is this any good? What style of music do they do? They come in my city in a couple of days, I don't want to miss it if I could like it.

Sober, go see them. For me. They won't be coming to my town any time. :)

From the tracks I've heard, they're good.

It's Pogues light -- not punk, not folk. But they sound tight.

Sober, where are you?

Montréal, Québec, Canada. They'll be playing a gig on the 25th, with 2 other bands I never heard of. But this is supposed to be an irish punk night, according to the Café where they'll be playing.

Dans le cadre du 10e anniversaire:

The Mahones + Corrigan Fest + Mitch L'Affront

21h 8$ à l'avance 10$ à la porte

soirée punk irlandaise

tirages et prix de présences !!!

Sooooooooooo to make a long story short, I'll be there AND I'll have fun..... hoping I'll be able to see the Pogues live at least once before my death, but this is most unlikely. And that makes me really, really sad.

By the way, will Terry Woods be with them or was it just a rumor?

Yeah I will go. Are they from Ireland? Or just some other "plastic paddies" ? :P

But I will go and I will come here to post my impressions of the show afterwards. :)

Being from Toronto, i'm familiar with The Mahones. I usually go & see 'em when they play here. One time, i didn't bother... and a certian Misters Woods & Chevron were on the tour... won't make that mistake again!

As for what they're like, here's how they describe themselves on the site:

The Mahones were formed at the end of the bar at the Toucan Irish Pub in Kingston, (Ontario Canada), in 1990 over a few pints of Guinness and a couple of shots of Jamesons Irish Whiskey. It was the brilliant idea of Dublin-born Finny McConnell and his musical mentor Barry Williams to put together a band that sounded like The Clash, The Pogues, The Who, The Waterboys, Husker Du and The Dubliners with a dash of The Replacements and a name that rhymed with The Ramones.

p.s. Before anybody gets too excited, this thread is about a Mahones tour from 2005 and - as far as i know - no Pogue is currently touring with 'em. But go see 'em anyway, a good time.
