If not hopefully Spider will be there for Flannigan's Ball anyway.

I've seen Dropkicks about 4 times at the Reading festival and they always go down brilliantly. Think it would be mental if The Pogues played. This year will be my 10th and probably last REading Festival, so would love it if The Pogues were there. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I don't know that i am "delighted " to confirm. Just "quite pleased" would do.

I'm happy to be chuffed but the Liverpool Summer Pops website is being a bit coy.

It lists Leonard Cohen on 14/7 and Ne-Yo on 17/7 with nothing in between. :?

Pogues to play Liverpool Summer Pops

Mar 27 2009 Liverpool Echo

ICONIC Irish folk stars The Pogues are the latest artists to sign up for the Liverpool Summer Pops Festival.

Led by the darkly charismatic singer, Shane MacGowen, The Pogues are one of Ireland's biggest bands, as well as one of the world's most radical, combining traditional Celtic music with the energy and attitude of punk rock spirit.

Chas Cole from CMP said: “We've been trying to bring The Pogues to Liverpool for a number of years now so we’re delighted that they’ll make their Liverpool Summer Pops Festival debut this year. We expect the show to be one of this year’s highlights.”

Their best known hit, Fairytale of New York – recorded with late Kirsty MacColl – was voted favourite Christmas song in a poll by music TV channel VH1. The track, which went to number two in 1987, beat the original Band Aid single into second place.

Their other classic songs include Love You 'Til The End, Tuesday Morning, The Old Main Drag, A Pair of Brown Eyes, plus the standards Dirty Old Town, The Irish Rover and Streams of Whiskey.

The Pogues formed in 1982.

As the group developed into a sextet, they added MacGowan's original songs to their repertoire.

In the years that followed they have remained hugely popular on the live circuit, playing gigs around the world.

The Pogues join Leonard Cohen, Ne-Yo, The Australian Pink Floyd Show, Simple Minds, Jools Holland, Simply Red, and Deacon Blue for the Pops.
