At least we found out they aren't coming to Canada before we got to the venue!
"likely they will at a later date" - this is promising though.
Still gutted though :(

A question regarding the "House of Blues" which will host the Pogues venue on Mar 21st??

is this the old Avalon Ballroom and do they have seating, as my wife does wish to attend a Pogues event with me, but she could not stand throughout it all, as this is one of the reasons she was not able to go with me the last two years to NY, as the Roseland was standing only basically, unless of course one was priviledged to be invited by the Pogues to sit in the balcony??...........nudge nudge wink wink??......................... :wink:

personally i like the standing room crowds as it is just a blast to see everyone just letting go??............. 8)

well the wife will go, but i bet she will be ordering a new leash and collar for me??................ :roll:

From a boston.com article last January:

"Avalon and Axis closed in October and are scheduled to reopen by the end of the year as an expanded $14 million complex that will include a music venue to accommodate 2,500, a 350-seat lounge and function room, and a 125-seat restaurant."
http://www.boston.com/business/articles ... lansdowne/

It sounds like it's basically an upgraded Avalon/Axis, so probably general admission. Of course, it's not actually open yet and doesn't appear to be open until February. I found another article that mentions leaked news of musicians playing the new HoB as early as Feb 22. It also mentions a band on March 22. I hope the promoters/managers that are being vilified for postponing/canceling the Canadian dates will add another Boston show on the 20th.

Any additional dates could always include the Orpheum.

Yes I know, it's another fuck up from The Pogues. I'm sorry. We don't do it deliberately.

thankyou Philip for taking the time to get this update out as quick as you have....... :cry:

These dates are now confirmed:

* March 9: Atlanta, GA, Tabernacle
* March 12 & 13: New York, NY, Roseland
* March 16 & 17: Washington, DC, 9:30 Club
* March 21: Boston, MA, House of Blues

Ah, the House of Blues in Boston, now I believe, a renovated place not yet open? Anyway, I shall miss the old Orpheum in Boston. Its beauty and age enhance the show, and it has very cool history.
Millard Fillmore was president and the Civil War was still nine years in the future when the Orpheum Theatre opened at the end of little Hamilton Place in Boston in 1852. There the New England Conservatory began, there the Boston Symphony Orchestra played its debut concert (in 1881), there Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto received its world premiere. Booker T. Washington and Ralph Waldo Emerson lectured. In later years the Orpheum - renovated several times - hosted vaudeville shows, movies, and the Opera Company of Boston.

Still, House of Blues seems to be the same size, or thereabouts, which seems just right, and one can put beauty and history aside once the Pogues start playing.

Holy God... The Pogues are coming to Atlanta, my hometown?

I bought If I Should Fall From Grace With God in 1988 on a whim after reading a review of it in Rolling Stone. Had never heard of the Pogues before then. It blew me away. I was in the US Navy at the time, and that cassette copy got worn out in my Walkman during six months at sea. When I finally got a CD player, it was the first CD I bought.

For twenty years I have hoped to have the opportunity to hear them live. You can bet I'll be there at the Tabernacle in March.

Philip, thanks to you and the boys for the music across all these years, and we'll look forward to welcoming you to Atlanta.

Bummer for the canadians, not the pogues' fault though. Chuffed to see the band are coming back to NY-i'm gonna be in Dublin a few days after their christmas gig so this news eases the pain a bit. Am really tempted to venture down to atlanta too, waiting to see if and when that Miami date is announced though, the missus would be a lot more open to going then! Anyhow, thanks for the news!!

my response was not meant as a slag against the Pogues or Phillip, it was in response to this line from Phillip,

"Yes I know, it's another fuck up from The Pogues. I'm sorry. We don't do it deliberately."

Phillip has been outstanding with his presence here, communicating with all Medusans, but for some reason whenever an event gets changed or delayed some people have been a little disparaging towards them,"The Pogues" that was basically the gist of my message, if you have been offended i apologize in kind towards you the forum and especially Phillip.

Now as for a poor choice of words, how about "if someone wants to whine about the unfortunate change of events, they can all go drown themselves in Guinness??"....... :lol: .......i trust this is more acceptable??

Also if anyone wish's I will edit the post and remove the poor choice of words, so please let me know.

As for meeting with you last year, i met a lot of people and of course there are some with faces and names that i can recall and some i just don't at the moment??.......................most unfortunately sometimes the effects of a few Guinness and of course throw in the Jameson's have a slight affect on the memory process??........................but one thing i do recall is that i had a great time last year in NY, and at the moment I am leaning towards NY once again,(maybe Boston) especially considering some of the e-mails and pm's i have received from some of the fine folks i was privileged to have met last year urging me to return to NY.

Maybe if the winds of this "economic mess" do not derail my plans i will once again be fortunate enough to raise a glass or two or three or more with other Medusans in honor of this fine group of musicians??......... :wink:

Once again I apologize to any and all who may have been offended with my choice of words

Cheers to any and all of course??.......................... 8)

The Boston show isn't listed at the Artist Arena pre-sale site. Any information as to why this is missing?

Thanks

I just came here to ask the same thing. I am getting nervous.

I hope it's just because they haven't posted it yet, and not because you can't buy tickets because the venue isnt finished yet.
