I remember. Two years ago I left Toronto at 6 am, spent all day in the Buffalo airport before realizing that there was no way flights to NYC would be reinstated, and caught the last overnight bus to arrive in New York at 10 the next morning. I'm sorry that you're facing a two hour drive this year.

My name is Byron. I'm a 16 year old from the Bronx in NYC and I am unable to attend the Pogues show in New York City because its far too expensive in these hard times. I can't find a job, and my father just lost his job. I went to Irving Plaza with money I had earned from a previous job, and they told me it cost 65 DOLLARS! That's almost as much as a Bruce Springsteen concert at Giants Stadium! I listen to the Pogues every single day of my life, and to be unable to attend the concert at Roseland Ballroom disappoints me immensely. I don't know who is at fault: the Pogues, Roseland Ballroom, or LiveNation. Because of my love for the Pogues and because their punk backgrounds, I'm assuming that they are not the ones at fault. I just wanted to bring this problem to the attention of the band, because I am sure I'm not the only one who won't be attending the show because of money problems.

philly4pogues.....It's all the whining by the philly fans that's being criticized. I've been to shows each of the last 3 years, traveling to Atlantic City and NY. Last year, they came to Baltimore, so no traveling. And, while it was nice (and cheaper) to have a show in my hometown, the memories I have from taking the trips to AC and NY will be with me until I'm senile. This year, I'm making the 50 mile schlep to DC, and staying in a nearby hotel witha group of friends... So, please stop complaining, pack your bag, hop a ride, and do something you'll remember fondly forever.

The Pogues Langerado Show moved to Pompano Beach Amphitheater

Another of Langerado's casualties has found a new home. Irish supergroup The Pogues brushed off Langerado's cancellation by announcing they'll be holding their own show on Saturday, March 7th at 8:30 pm. Better yet, Shane MacGowan and crew have announced this will be the first show of their North American tour and the only time they'll appear in Florida.

Shake off your Langerado blues and celebrate St. Patrick's day a little early at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater at 1806 NE 6th St in Pompano. Tickets run $45 and go on sale Monday February 9th at 5 pm.

"supergroup" I didn't get the news the Pogues were promoted. I wonder if Mr. Chevron can let us know what
improved benefits they get now they are a supergroup :)

HAH??.......................the blizzard of NY 2007 edition??

we had train tickets booked, and of course as best laid plans??.............they get side blinded, early that week there was a train derailment @ Onieda NY, so i called Amtrak, and of course they promised to serve their customers, and the first leg to NY was fine, we traveled as far as Syracuse where we disembarked and Amtrak had bus's waiting for us to go around Oneida, from there we traveled to Albany , NY where we boarded a train to NY.??

We were the last rain to get into NY and by this time ALL airports were shut down because of the heavy snow falling as we arrived??

Now it only gets better from here??..............LOL...........on the recommendation of a friend for a "cheap" hotel and this being my first travel to the NY, i had booked the "Carter Hotel"...............

So here we are trudging through the snow from Penn station, and it was above our ankles by this time??...........we found directions to "the hotel", well we found it and the outside was rather dated, which i was aware of beforehand as she was an oldie, anyway in we go and the lobby left a lot to be desired, so by now my hackles are getting up, we book in and get our keys and up we go to our rooms, double suite??...................open the door and to our abject horror the room was in shambles, it looked as if someone had just jumped out of a well worn bed and ran down the hall on our approach, so we inspected the room and it was to say the least disgusting, it was freezing in the room as there were holes in some of the windows, crap everywhere, what appeared to be blood on the walls, so proclaim, guys we are out of here, of course the young folk who were with us were being very polite and claimed that it would not be a bother??

I emphatically stated that i would not let a dead dog sleep in this room??........so my main partner who was a little more diplomatic than i said lets see if we can check out another room first, so i relented, we left all the young uns in the lobby, with instructions to not leave the bags unattended nor each other, and not even to go to the bathroom until we got back??

So here we are up in this next room, and "IF" you can believe it it was much worse, much more in fact, this room was absolutely freezing when we entered, the windows were broken, we went to the bathroom the main source of freezing cold air and we found the window wide open, so we tried to close it only to discover that there was no window to close??..................so we though this can't be, the washroom was rather dark so we tried to turn on the light, but there was none to be found??..............on one of the bedroom walls there was a 4x8, wallboard attached to hide the crumbling plaster, and when i moved it a bit something scurried away through a hole at the far side??

Well i said to my buddy, have you seen enough??......................off we go down to the lobby, seeing i booked this shithole, i demanded a full refund and cancellation of all charges, and demanded that all charges be canceled even cancellation fees or i would go straight to the NY health board and lodge complaints??........well they complied of course??

So here we go out into NY City and we begin our trek around Manhatton looking for somewhere to put us up, i cannot recall how many we went too and all this time the snow kept falling and it was getting deep on the streets, keep in mind ALL flights trains and such into and out of the city were shutdown, and this was St Patricks Day weekend, so half of Ireland was surely going to be in NY for the festivities. The kids all said they didn't mind staying at "The Carter", i stated i would buy tents and sleeping bags and sleep in Central Park before we did that?? After about a dozen or so hotels we arrived at the "Hilton Garden Inn Times Square", and of course no rooms available, so now i'm about to beg here and explained fully our predicament, the fellow at the desk was very polite and helpful, and he disappeared into a back office and comes back and states we have found a room?? of course we had to pay through the nose for it, but it was lodging, and it was far better than "Central Park", at this point with the cold and more snow falling outside i was about to argue about the price, as at this pint we were desperate??

Up we went and settled in and freshen up so to speak, and now hunger came on??.........and thirst by this point??

So out we went looking for a diner of sorts, so half the party wanted to go to "The Hardrock Cafe" or planet Hollywood, i have a serious disdain for these establishments, i was only agreeable when they offered to buy, cheap bastard I'am??....LOL...................well not really I'm the type who likes to take advantage of the local small proprietor type of business, so we were walking about and everyone was having a blast and i felt like a coffee and i couldn't find one, so who do you ask for?? i thought, well the most obvious either a policeman or a fireman??...........i was standing about waiting for the young uns to get out of a store as "THE SHOPPING" spree had commenced, my daughter (Rosebud) and stores i believe are somehow eternally joined somewhere??...........there were a few of NY"s finest Firemen standing about, so i asked them where i could get a decent cup of java and also where was it they ate in the area if they were to wish for a decent meal?/..........................the one asked to you want a real coffee or that "Starbucks" crap??.............oops sorry i just don't do Starbucks unless there are no other options, they pointed to a family establishment just down the street on Eighth, which just happened to be right across the street from our hotel??

So off i went and sat down to have a cup of java as i was freezing by this time, and i checked out the menu??............lo and behold i found exactly what i was looking for, this place had everything to offer at very reasonable rates, from full served breakfast to full course meals and everything in between, when i hooked back up with the others i told them where i would be eating all weekend, as by this time because of the hotel costs we had blown the budget even before we got started??.................

This restaurant if anyone is interested is called the Olympic Restaurant, and one can even view an on-line menu at this url

http://www.menupages.com/restaurantdeta ... antid=3606

ratings and reviews are available, last year when My duaghter and i went back we ate there for most of the time were there and it was still good??...................again very reasonable and long hours??.............just in case your still hungry after The Pogues gig??

Sorry for this story being so long, but it does get better??..................so when it was time to leave we head down to Penn Station to get on our train, and when we checked the status it said only as far as Albany, so i asked the attendants at the desk and he states no bus's have been arranged to get around the de-railment??..............uh what??

so after arguing with this fellow for about 20 minutes i demanded to see his supervisor, and told him that when i had called previous the trip that all travel would be looked after, and he said there was nothing he could do, so by now i'm demanding a refund for our ticket balance, they finally relenquished, and went off to the bus station, bought tickets and got on board our bus, it filled quickly and the only seat i could get had the wheel hump and my leg is hanging up around my chin, and just stressing out my knee (i had had knee surgery in Jan, and it was still healing, ummm errr yeah The Pogues gig was a test on its integrity, dunno, kind of hard not to dance at those gigs??).......anyway we sitting there and my knee is beginning to scream and lock up on me and we haven't even left the station yet and the trip to Buffalo was about 7-8 hours??................... we sat there for about an hour when the bus driver comes on board and asks everyone to get off as the ABS breaks system had failed, oh and no air conditioner either??..................off we go to another bus, at least this one was far more comfortable and i was able to stretch my legs at times??

Now off to Buffalo we go, arrive there about 10 hours later (It was snowing again the whole way from NY), we left our vehicle @ Niagara Falls NY we live in Niagara Falls Can......................no bus's to NF,NY, but we had only moments to catch a bus to Canada, so we scrambled, got into NF Canada about 3:30 AM and , my dearest picked us up, so now i had to drive back into the states so we could get my buddies car at the train station??..................the customs guy put us through the third degree as to why at this time of the night we were crossing back and forth into and out of the U.S.??....................so after a about an hour of BS at the boarder, they lets us go, as we were going to the train station my buddy mentioned "what else can go wrong??)...................i said DON"T EVEN THINK IT, cause probably your car would be gone or vandalised??

It wasn't, we picked it up and back to Canada we go??....................yeah now Canada customs wants to know what the hell we were doing going back and forth??....................good lord by this time i lost it, after loudly and rantingly stating what all had happened to us, i did not have the patience to be badgered with his stupid questioning??

There was silence, and then i looked down at the floor and said to myself, i don't think i should have done that??.............i looked at the fellow and he's looking at me, so then he asks??........so How Was The Gig??...................i smiled and laughed and said it was the best fucking concert i have ever been too??

He smiled at that and said have a good night, and lets us go??.......................................

In hindsight whenever my buddy and speak of that weekend we smile and laugh, and just recall the good times we had, especially the bonding we had with our kids, his lad and one of my lads and my daughter, it was a magical weekend, and i would not trade it for nothing, standing there seeing The Pogues, with two of my kids, and some close friends??

PRICELESS??

Irishrose...........................and last year was feckin great also, i can't expect anything less this year??.....

What a story! I did actually stay at the Carter Hotel once and I can guarantee that there is not a word of exaggeration in the above.

For budget hotels in the Times Square area that are at least clean and functional, not to mention within shouting distance of most theatres (and Roseland), the Milford Plaza on 8th Avenue remains hard to beat. Plus you can always tell people you stayed in Hell's Kitchen, er Clinton.

Carter Hotel

Thanks for the story IrishRose, it brightened up my day. Doubt it was the same hotel, but it almost sounded like they gave you
the room where Sid killed Nancy, with all the blood stains, etc.

Baltimoron- you seem to have a hard on for Philadelphians.

my story has you beat though...

I trudged through 6 feet of snow with no thermal socks on in 60 mph winds while I just got out of the hospital with an exteme case of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS for you laymen). My feet were frost bitten and and my exposed skin was red raw. As a result i hijacked a 2008 Honda GX (which wasnt out at the time) and harnassed the extreme gas that I was producing to power the vehicle to the pogues show. I didnt have enough money for drinks at the show so I went to the liquor store and got a bottle of bankers club vodka and 4 oranges that I bought at a grocery store. I proceeded to use the syringe I stole from the hospital to inject the vodka into the oranges. Upon arriving to the show I produced my ticket that i bought from a ticket scalper using counterfeit 3 dollar bills with Bill Clinton's face on it. I got inside the venue and proceeded to pound my contraband oranges while stealing unattended drinks from unsuspecting customers. Turns out that one of the drinks was laced with some unknown substance and I was literally dancing in brendan behans footsteps up and down the street. Don't even ask how i got back home.

Oh, turns out that i didnt need to change my diet or get a perscription for my IBS! The doc just said to stop drinking budweiser and mickey 40's. But hey thats neither here or there...
