Hey there Chris. My wife and I are headed to Atlanta. I only remember a couple of other Medusans acknowledging that they were headed there so far. You will have to read the previous pages of this thread.

Phillip,

just wanted to express my dissapointment at your group's decision not to include the Philly area in your tour schedule. A fan since '85, I couldn't believe, with the successes of past shows, seeing we were passed over. From South Jersey to Harrisburg, PA and points north and south, you have no more a loyal a group of fans. I hope the group reconsiders and adds a show for the 14th. Could you please continue to pass along our concerns as they come in, to those that schedule tour stops. Thanks!

How far away is Philly from NYC and DC? I've made the trip to NYC from Canada twice in inclement weather, only a 7 hour drive, well worth it! Won't be going this year though, still waiting for a Toronto show.

There's the rub, you see. Nobody schedules "tour stops". What they (promoters, agents, management) aim for is the best possible routing with the least overheads, also bearing in mind the Unions' demands for adequate breaks and the Band's fondness for superior bed linen, 5 star pillowing and TVs permanently switched to Fox News, as they have been in the Pentagon for the past 8 years.

The idea is to get the band through as many shows as possible in as sensible a time as possible for as much moolah as possible, in a manner which improves their bank balances without harming their (let's be fair, ageing) health - though BB King doesn't complain so we won't either.

Oh yes, and every local promoter wants us for Saturday night, did I mention that? So it's nothing personal if the City of Brotherly Love and Liberty Bell gets passed by this time. I personally loved it last time and hope it is not too long before we get back.

And after all, Philadelphia 2007 is still a great deal more recent than many of the places in the world that'd quite like to have us visit.

Also, the owners of the 9:30 Club have promised to meet the band's demand for several bowls full of tan M&Ms. These were discontinued 14 years ago in favor of the clearly inferior blue variety, but Seth Hurwitz is rumored to have a rather large stash hidden somewhere in Rock Creek Cemetery.

Hey the Niteclub 9:30 website is still showing tickets available for Monday 3/16... DC's a couple t'ree hours from Philly if one drives fast and takes chances...

(This is good news because people can still attend, but as a city resident, I fear it shows us in a poor light.)

Oh my goodness what a funny and classy reply from Phillip...

Cheers

Cheers Phillip. I understand. New York's not so far to drive....but the likelyhood of beating out the locals for ticks isn't there. I'll check. Irish Philadelphians think of themselves as not being more important or less important than any other NE Irish city...just AS important. As far as Pogues' stops go...we have been lucky and are appreciative. Thank you. Go Birds!!

I am disappointed that Philadelphia is not on the tour, but suprised that Atlanta and Miami are. I think most fans in Philly are annoyed b/c the scheduling of the shows elsewhere (Atlanta? Miami?). Furthermore, Philly fans have traveled in the past to Atlantic City to see the Pogues in 2006. Its not really all that far, but you have to factor in the price of the hotel as well. Chicago isnt on the tour either so I suppose we can't be that bitter. I was more suprised than anything else considering the following excerpts from "A Drink with Shane MacGowan":

" I'll do a tour of the east coast of America. That's where our following is, on the East coast of America. That's a big following" (pg 221).

"I anticipated it being bigger on the east coast of America. Cause I knew all about the American- Irish, the New York Irish, and the New Jersey Irish...the east coast Irish" (pg 214).

" It's too big. It's full of idiots. Its like...it's soulless, y'know. I mean, I'm not saying the American people are...I'm talking about WASPs, you know. The Midwest, and the south, and all those horrible places that there are in America...." (pg 239).

"The Irish American fans were great, you know. I always loved playing New York, Boston, even Chicago, know what I mean, yeah. But that was the Irish American area. If we had concentrated on the Irish American area, which would have made sense...we could've broken it, and they would've...well, at least we would have broken that part of America, you know what I mean"(pgs 239-240).

Hopefully you guys will come see us in 2010.

Come on Steve, get a grip. Many others have traveled far and wide to see a show in past years - on very tight budgets- and been glad to have the chance (myself included - the first two years before they came to Baltimore last year). From the north side of Baltimore to DC isn't that much closer than from Philly to DC - only an hour more). Get a group of friends, use some vacation time from work, rent a decent hotel room, and make it a two day trip. You might find it' to be more fun than a one-day event with a local show, and you'll have some great memories for the rest of your life. The trips I took to Atlantic City and New York will be with me for a long long time.

I hope you can make it.
