Any word on ticket sales in Atlanta? We are headed there but I just don't think of Atlanta as a "major draw" city for The Pogues. Granted I only lived there for about 6 months. I would think Minneapolis or Denver would be way more receptive.

Anyway, if you get to Atlanta there is a great little blues club called Blind Willie's that we plan to hit while in town. Hope to see "All You All" there.

It remains to be seen, of course. In the past we have played memorable, if low-key shows at unlikely places like Tipitina's in New Orleans and the Schloss Furnace in Birmingham, Alabama. Pogues in unexpected places usually offers compensatory rewards.

As noted before, the Canada shows we hoped to do in March will not be immediately rescheduled, but we are hopeful that there will be an opportunity sooner rather than later to remedy the cancellation of the other shows. No promises, just hopes.

Vancouver's snow bound and all I can think about is a cold pint in Foley's before the Boston show. Cheers and Happy Christmas to all who made it and all who will go to the show in March. Hope to raise a glass with Canadian Steve and DzM again this year. Flying in from Vancouver instead of the drive from Halifax but I think most of us would travel alot farther.Distance is irrelevant in some situations. Mr Chevron thanks again for keeping North America on the list. Cheers and
Slainte Mhath to all.

Sure, this year, as in past years, the distance itself is irrelevant, and in reality, the cost of getting to Boston from Halifax by car is really quite inexpensive. However, it is he added costs of lodging that concerns me most, especially if weather/road conditions add an unexpected evening to the trip; the first two years, '06 and '07, were clear sailing both ways. Last March was another storey. We hit snow in Eastern Maine on the way back home, ad the rest of the trip, about 8 hours, in the dark was absolutely miserable through New Brunswick and central Nova Scotia. We should've stopped and found some place to stay, but we drove on. The snow added about 4 hours to the trip.

I could easily leave Halifax to get me to Boston just in time, stay for the show, and head home all in a ~24 hour period, but where's the fun in that? I could even go to Boston, spend the night, and come back, but again, where is the fun in that?

My first year (2006), w spent two nights, but the last coulple years, we stayed nearly an entire week, and have enjoyed the trip all that much more.

I just don't know at this point right now where the extra cash will come from. I will however take that week off, and play it by ear. Who knows, I may make it to boston afterall.

Does anyone know how much scalped tickets might go for the night of the show?

I know it's not quite Canada, but how about a late-March gig in Vermont? The music scene in Burlington is arguably one of the finest in the world, there are a lot of Pogues fans here, and it's only about 45 minutes from the Canadian boarder [which would be very convenient for our Friends up North]. And, I work at a brewery here, which could be a very convenient place for The Pogues to visit before the gig. Just a thought. Either way, booked gig or no, The Pogues should still come visit Burlington and The Brewery during their downtime in the Northeast, because Vermont really is the greatest of the Fifty States. Food for thought....

D.C.

A Washington landmark near the D.C. venue

It was an exciting time on the U Street corridor, which was then known as "Black Broadway." Top performers could be found playing sets in clubs along the corridor, as well as eating and just "hanging out" at Ben’s. It was not uncommon to see such luminaries as Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway, Nat King Cole, Redd Foxx, Dick Gregory, Martin Luther King Jr., or Bill Cosby at "The Bowl."

Not to take the talk too far afield but must echo about U St. in DC- was there last night. Down 14th St. a few blocks is HR 57 - a jazz preservation joint. BYOB there (they sell but it's costly) - in between sets they show film of old jazz greats. If one has a little time to explore whilst visiting DC, and does not hate jazz, one could do worse, like going to Georgetown - bleah.

The following would be lovely - if they repaired the sound glitches at 9:30 club and if DC-based Pietasters would open.

Honestly, if I didn't visit this forum periodically I would not have known about it. I do not think it's being promoted as much as in in years past. I told a few friends who also did not know.
