For anyone interested; Sheffield and Leeds both hold just over 2000 each, while the MEN holds upto 16 thousand when its set up as it has been for Pogues shows in the past! If you live in the North of England within a week you've a one in 20 thousand chance to see the Pogues close to home!

pre sale not always best

Post Wed Aug 27, 2008 4:14 pm

Although it guarantees you tickets, i've found in the past that you tend to receive your tickets a good while after others that have gone through the general sale procedure, whilst this is obviously not a problem i can't help worrying when i've not got my tickets and others on here are saying how there tickets arrived this morning. I guess i'm just an old fart :(
I reckon I'm gonna wait till Friday morning , as long as you do it on Friday you'll get tickets
Sending you positive thoughts Mr C, it just aint the real deal without you !!

Just one of the things I love about this site is learning little tidbits like this... thanks.

That is a nice little fact. My mum always defines lace-curtain Irish as those that 'keep fruit in the house even when no-one is ill,' but I never had any idea where it came from. :)

I can't quite remember where I first heard this: possibly the US TV documentary series Out Of Ireland some years back, or maybe Long Journey Home. One of those history things, anyhow. Kennedy was, like most political candidates, in the habit of canvassing at the front doors of people's houses, not the back door as locals did, but some of the generation of Boston Irish, less than impressed by the Hollywood glamour of the candidate, chose to (or pretended to) hold this against him.

I love your mom's description.

A couple of questions--

Is the Kings Hall in Belfast all general admission? how much standing, seated? Having never been there I was just curious so I'd know how early to get there to get close to the stage.

Mr. C., did the band and your promoter give any thought to playing the newly rehabbed 02 Arena in Dublin, forever fondly remembered as the Point? Looks pretty awesome from the virtual tour on the website, though it's a shame they had to sell naming rights.

Our UK/Ireland tours are ordinarily booked and in pencil in our diaries by the previous February or so. When Denis Desmond booked us into the RDS again, it was not yet certain the 02 Arena would be completed in time. I'm not sure we would want to be guinea pigs second time around either - ourselves and New Kids On The Block were, I think, the first acts to play The Point when it first opened as a venue and the first acts, therefore, to suffer its terminally awful acoustics. However much money and however many clever acoustic designers are thrown at a new venue, it cannot be said to actually work properly until there is a band and an audience in it.

Someone else will help you with the Belfast question, as I'm not at all familiar with the venue.

Last year Kings Hall was completely standing. It was hard to stand in the end because of all the plastic beer bottles on the floor though! But much better athmosphere there than the Dublin gig by the way

thanks for the feedback. Having seen 2 Xmas shows at the Point I'm anxious to see how Belfast compares. We're coming over from Chicago and staying at the Premier Inn in City Centre, we were there in June and it's a nice clean cost effective place. Plus they've got a bar in the lobby for a post Pogues nightcap!

I think the Brixton tickets are £30 - love to go to more than one this year (been saving for this) but anyway hope to order our tickets tomorrow for 19th, our daughter and boyfriend are coming too, love the whole evening, it's great to have a few in the Cantabury Arms first (Pogues music all evening).

Whats the RDS like ?
I've seen the Pogues at both the kings hall and the point and i have to say they are the worst venues I've seen them in - big fuckin cattle sheds, brum, brixton and glasgow are the best venues from a being in the crowd point of view......... in my opinion , that is
GLASVEGAS TO SUPPORT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

The RDS was worse than The Point ever was for atmosphere. I'm sad saying this but the gigs in Dublin just don't ever have any passion from the crowd. They all seem to be there for curiosity or because they've finished work for christmas and someone in the office says let's go and sing "Fairytale".

Befast, similar venue as RDS but what a crowd! Beer allowed in the hall and no barrier half way down with an empty pit at the front of stage. It's a no brainer, don't bother with the RDS if your travelling, if you happen to be around town, join the Yuppies in a verse of "Fairytale".

Belfast for me :D Gonna try and get to Glasgow and London too 8) Probably end up in the RDS anyway

Hi !

Does anybody hav any knowledge or experience how fast the Dublin Gig will be sold out ? I want to fly in from Germany, but I a little bit afraid that I miss the start of the ticket sale for the Dublin Gig. Where can I order those tickets ? Will they be available at http://www.ticketmaster.ie ?
Can anybody help me ?

Dublin gig won't sell out. If it does, it'll be the week of the gig. See my post above yours.

Just booked ticket for Bristol. Have been to Dublin the last couple of years and thought I would try somewhere different. Going to Belfast again though, it was amazing last year.
