I actually suggested this when the echo arena opened but as I said in an earlier post on this thread, I'm glad that they're not, due to it being an incredibly difficult venue to get tickets for, and you have to stay seated so there's no chance of moshing.
I would hate to miss my favourite band play my favourite city in the world, I just can't bear the thought of being sat at home knowing The Pogues are in town because I haven't been able to get tickets.
As I mentioned somewhere else on here, our UK shows are booked almost a year in advance, and I doubt the new venue could have guaranteed to accomodate us back then. As has rightly been pointed out, we have not played Liverpool in recent years, but now there's a good-sized venue there, that may change if we do a tour in 2009. On the other hand, I don't like playing arenas which are all-seated, as I still have bad memories of the crush in Wembley Arena 20 years ago, which drove us right back to Brixton Academy where we belong. But if the venue has a flexible configuration and can allow a standing/moshing area down front, I am certain it will be considered in the future.
Nahh I dont think it can Phillip which is a shame. Its just typical of our at City at present. We have done a fantastic job of the City of Culture and have had some wonderful stuff on however the biggest thing we fuck up and make a stadium that doesnt hold enough to hold somebody massive but then doesnt have the capability to host a band with slightly less support but that requires a standing area. Basically we are left with Gabriell, High School Music on Ice, Deacon Blue and whatever. Sorry rant over. I love my city

I have standing tickets to see Queen & Paul Rodgers at the Echo Arena in October, so standing is possible, although maybe whole floor rather than a section
EDIT:
Just checked the layout & for the Queen gig it is a full standing floor & arena tiered seating giving a 10,000 capacity

How much time do you think I'll have before it's sold out?
And is it standing or seating tickets? Sitting on a Pogues concert, can't even imagine.

Made a few calls to the various box offices selling the tickets and was alarmed to find an extra charge for admin of between £4 and £5+ per ticket as well as the postage charge! Does anyone know if there is a cheaper way to purchase these tickets with a less extra to pay for 'handling' ?

It seems that usually the only way to avoid these evil extra rip-off charges is to go to the actual box office physically, in person. And then maybe be ready to pay in cash. And even then I wouldn't entirely count on it.
