I actually suggested this when the echo arena opened but as I said in an earlier post on this thread, I'm glad that they're not, due to it being an incredibly difficult venue to get tickets for, and you have to stay seated so there's no chance of moshing.

I would hate to miss my favourite band play my favourite city in the world, I just can't bear the thought of being sat at home knowing The Pogues are in town because I haven't been able to get tickets.

As I mentioned somewhere else on here, our UK shows are booked almost a year in advance, and I doubt the new venue could have guaranteed to accomodate us back then. As has rightly been pointed out, we have not played Liverpool in recent years, but now there's a good-sized venue there, that may change if we do a tour in 2009. On the other hand, I don't like playing arenas which are all-seated, as I still have bad memories of the crush in Wembley Arena 20 years ago, which drove us right back to Brixton Academy where we belong. But if the venue has a flexible configuration and can allow a standing/moshing area down front, I am certain it will be considered in the future.

Nahh I dont think it can Phillip which is a shame. Its just typical of our at City at present. We have done a fantastic job of the City of Culture and have had some wonderful stuff on however the biggest thing we fuck up and make a stadium that doesnt hold enough to hold somebody massive but then doesnt have the capability to host a band with slightly less support but that requires a standing area. Basically we are left with Gabriell, High School Music on Ice, Deacon Blue and whatever. Sorry rant over. I love my city

I have standing tickets to see Queen & Paul Rodgers at the Echo Arena in October, so standing is possible, although maybe whole floor rather than a section

EDIT:
Just checked the layout & for the Queen gig it is a full standing floor & arena tiered seating giving a 10,000 capacity

Which means, without question, that it will be under consideration by our promoters in the future.

The Brixton gigs on 18th and 19th, that's the same venue right, in London?
How much time do you think I'll have before it's sold out?

And is it standing or seating tickets? Sitting on a Pogues concert, can't even imagine.

We have our tickets for Brixton for 19th December but would also like to the Sheffield gig. Made a few calls to the various box offices selling the tickets and was alarmed to find an extra charge for admin of between £4 and £5+ per ticket as well as the postage charge! Does anyone know if there is a cheaper way to purchase these tickets with a less extra to pay for 'handling' ?

I think they sold out quite late last year, at least not fast enough to add a third show. If you have decided to go there´s no need to wait, just buy the tickets as soon as possible so maybe there will be a third show. Yes they are at the same venue and go for standing.

See you there

Thanks!

Call me boring or old or whatever, but I like seated tickets. And if you book early for the MEN arena, you usually get pretty decent seats. I usually chose some in the lower tier on the side of the stage - on Mr. Chevron's side.

It seems that usually the only way to avoid these evil extra rip-off charges is to go to the actual box office physically, in person. And then maybe be ready to pay in cash. And even then I wouldn't entirely count on it.

We will wait a week or so and then hopefully buy the extra tickets. Whenever we see the band we always want to back and see them again so thought it would be a good idea to see them once during the first week and again at our usual venue, Brixton. Can't really go to the box office very easily from where we are! I wouldn't mind so much if it were the tickets that cost more money, I am just not very happy about the box office charging so much. That's my little grumble over with now!

And it's a quite legitimate grumble too. It's really annoying how that money for those "booking charges" seems to disappear into a black hole and never to be seen by the band in question. I complain about it frequently. For local gigs, I always go to the actual box office if I can. But it's probably not a cost-effective course of action when a round trip of at least 150/200 miles or so is involved, like it would be for the Pogues gigs. So we're back in the hands of the ticket agents...

If you book through the carling academy website its cheaper. If you book through gigsandtours.com you have to pay an extra 3 quid booking fee and 4.8 quid transaction fee + delivery probably..

From the Bristol carling academy site you can get Tickets Emailed to yourself, coats a little less than Ticketmaster etc.
