I think you're referring to "Sie Dan" by Attwenger....you can get it on the Nu Europe compilation released by Manteca.

Amazon has some used from 78 cents!!!

http://www.amazon.com/Nu-Europe-Countri ... 720&sr=8-1

It's worth it - besides the Attewenger songs, Joe Strummer has a killer version of "Shaktar Donetsk" on it.

I've seen the Pogues several times...last time at the HOB in Boston recently. Does anyone know the names of the songs/artists that play after the opening act and right before they take the stage?

hearing that song gives me goosebumps! i can picture dj scratchy fading out the intermission track, bringing in "straight to hell," the lights going down and hearing the crowd cheer. the applause dies down but the beat is still hitting and all eyes are on stage. the first shadows appear and a few lights are brought up. you cheer for the boys as they come out one by one. the music stops. shane spits a few last words into the mic. james hits a few intro notes, the lights flash bright in your eyes for one brief moment, and it's on! :D goosebumps i tell ya!

Since the question refers to all of the music in addition to "Straight To Hell".....let me try my best.

I've definitely heard at least two Clash songs from Sandinista...."The Call Up" and "The Magnificent Seven."

There's also alot of songs from the Nu Europe Compilation...the only two titles I ever remember are "Te Bie" and "Sie Dan"...there's lots of others, but I don't have the CD in front of me.

"Click Clack" by Captain Beefheart...(I'm a big Captain Beefheart fan).

There's a rap song that samples Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone"...don't know the name....I don't like rap.

I'm sure I'm forgetting others

I remember Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros Shaktar Donetsk from Nu Europe.

Out of interest, how long has Straight To Hell been used, is it just since the reunion or did old school Pogues use this track? Either way it is an epic choice, does it get used at festivals?

Hmm, good question, Chris.

I don't think it has always been used, I think Battle March Medley was probably used at one time (or am I dreaming again)?

I think we've been using it since 2004. It was Shane's idea. Periodically, we try to change it, but we've never found anything we like better.

Back in the day, we had a succession of intro tapes, ranging from "A Pistol For Paddy Garcia" to "Battle March" and god knows what else. We used the Alfred Hitchcock Theme for a while too.

If you're going to change it, how about a nice little something from Noel Hill?

Last show I saw- Manchester 2007- it was the song played after the band finished- it was my first exposure to MIAs paper planes. Stayed in my head for days & took a few days to work out the artist- finally heard it introduced on the radio.
