"Straight To Hell" by The Clash was widely reported to be the song they entered and exited to.
“I know all those people that were in the film [...] But that’s when they were young and strong and full of life, you know?”

Straight to Hell

Post Wed Jan 19, 2005 7:08 pm

The Clash recording of "Straight To Hell" was at the start of the show every night except the first Glasgow show, when we weren't yet quite that organised.

It was Shane's choice, and a thoughtful one in its way - those with long memories will recall that the song was a highlight of The Pogues show during Joe Strummer's tenure as lead singer.

We used Joe's "Redemption Song" a couple of nights at the END of the show, but it was a bit of a downer after "Fiesta" and was soon replaced by The Ronettes "Sleigh Ride".

The DJ throughout the tour was Scratchy, who will be a familiar figure to many fans of The Clash.

And a great choice it was! (Straight to Hell, I mean)

What was the setlist? Was it the same one as in Glasgow?
I checked the first Glasgow setlist (From here) and if my memory is correct, the list was quite similar in Manchester? And what a set it was...

Is that the version with Johnny Cash?

Setlist

The show had the same running order every night except, again, the first Glasgow show, when the encores were in a different order.

I don't think it was the Johnny Cash duet of "Redemption", though both were of course produced by Rick Rubin

Cheers Mr Chevron! For (confirming) the list and for the great gig that I will never forget.

Didn't know that one existed. Is it on a cd or is it a rarity?

Rick Rubin

Rick Rubin produced Joe's version and the Cash/Strummer duet at the same time. I have a hunch that the duet only appears on the Box Set of "American" recordings offcuts and outtakes that Rubin released last year.

Ach... is it actually possible to have an overview of all Pogues-related releases?
I think I'll go and hug my CDs now.

"Straight To Hell" by The Clash. From the Combat Rock album.
