shane last on stage

Post Thu Dec 27, 2007 3:40 pm

i've noticed that since the reunion in 2001, shane always comes on stage a minute or so after the rest of the pogues. any reason for this mr chevron? i mean, it's not shane macgowan and the pogues, it's the pogues. why not come on together like the old days?

Most of us are still sufficiently agile to just walk on stage. Shane takes a degree of assistance. No point in falling over each other on the way on, is there?

I was standing just beside his onstage "tent" at the RDS on Sunday just before the band went on. There is no indication that he deliberately delays his entrance but, like everything else with Shane, it takes as long as it takes.

Anoter question in the same kind of vein is the reason for the stage line-up. As far as I know the way you all stand on stage has not changed since reunion. From left to right: Terry, James, Andrew (Back) Shane, Spider, Philip and the Jem. Is there are reason for this or does it just feel most natural or is it technical or something?

Although it is true that I am more mobile than some, I have to dispute your descrption. I'd say it goes

Terry, Philip, James (more of a Libero really), Andrew, Shane, Spider, Darryl, Jem

The stage positions are mainly dictated by who needs to hear whom most when we play.

That is generally quite interesting. So the fact that James throws himself all over the stage for the whole gig an indication that everyone needs to hear him?

Whether they're conscious of that or not.

Not true. He picks and chooses. He's a singer, he has a great deal less to gain from soundchecks and perhaps something to lose. Frankly, we usually get more done without him. But if he's in the mood, as the rest of us almost always are, for trying out new old songs, he can sometimes be a great asset.
