Getting really good seats: Boston

Post Mon Dec 17, 2007 9:30 pm

Okay, the pre-sale for Boston sold out in 15 minutes. We missed it.
The Orpheum doesn't do general admission, and we got really good seats last year----but at the very last minute, really, and at a huge expense from some place other than TicketMaster. Seemed like good seats kept opening up as the concert got closer.

Question:

Will Ticketmaster tell us where the seats are that we buy? Last year they would not.

Is there a way to choose your seats?

Should we expect good seats to open up as time goes on (as happened last year?)

Thanks to anyone with more knowledge than we have!

Wish I could help but Pogues ticketing has always been one of life's unknown unknowns to me.

i was wondering about this myself. I went online today just after 3pm and all the more expensive tickets were sold out,i could have bought one but that did'nt suit. Anyhow,i held off buying cheaper ones with the hope of buying some great seats friday morning when they go on general sale.

What a nice sentiment, Philip; thanks. One has to wonder, though, WHY the process must be so incomprehensible. Must have to do with, what else, money.

We shall persevere; maybe we'll have the same luck we had last year: super seats, empty wallets. It was well worth it!

This is why General Admission (read: standing only) are better venues for preselling tickets. There's undoubtedly some type of shenanagans going on with reserved seat venues. As noted somewhere else on this forum, the presale tickets are NEVER the best in the house.

You are no doubt right about that. I did ask a local Ticketmaster agent whether I could buy specific seats for the Orpheum and was told no, that they give you "best available."

I can't help but picture "best available" behind a huge pillar on the extreme left or right AND with the Celtics in front of us--or the people with the Irish version of a Cat in the Hat hat, like the ones we peered around last year. :)

Ticketmaster, frustratingly enough, in the UK, the USA and Ireland, all subscribe to this "best available" nonsense for theatre tickets too. 7 times out of ten they lose my business because I know very well that ROW Q is very far from "best available" six months in advance for a show that I KNOW is only doing moderate to good business. If I log on in six months time, they will almost certainly be offering me ROW D. I don't know why they do this. Telecharge allow you numerpus options and, increasingly, the individual websites of theatres now allow you to choose your EXACT seat.

CONSUMERS, REVOLT!

(But if you really want to see the Pogues, well......)

I continue to check and hope. In the meantime, one website that otherwise proved unhelpful did announce this:

NO Sharp or Dangerous Items (weapons, knives, spiked items, chains, fireworks & mace)

Guess I'll have to leave all that stuff at home. :)

We too purchased those "really good" seats one year for $$$+, it was our 25 year anniversary. Totally missed presale and I went on the day they listed. Last year we were in the balcony and had a great time. This year on the floor and kind of back. Logged on at 10 AM and this was the "best available". I just checked and there are still tickets available. Also, you could get tickets outside for face value the past 2 years.[/b]

Well, I hate to say what we did: We bought tickets from brokers. For the amount we had to pay I could have probably flown 2 of us to Europe. But darn, I just wanted to get to the concert and have good seats. This year if there are any Cat in the Hat hats blocking my view, I will speak up. :)

If the weather permits a longish drive into Boston, I will be very happy. The snow this year has been formidable!

March 20 Tickets

Post Mon Jan 14, 2008 12:10 am

Does anyone have any idea when/if the March 20 Boston tickets will go on sale. I first heard the Pogues a few years ago and I can't miss the opportunity to see them in Boston this year. I'm just not sure if I should buy tickets for the 19th or wait until the tickets for the 20th go on sale and hopefully get better seats.
