I'm headed up to San Francisco midday for some pre-show social lubrication...any suggestions close to The Fillmore? Any gatherings already planned?

Damn good question.

Who's going to SF shows, and where shall pre-drinking happen?

CPoguesFan and myself will be there and since we do not know the area we have been patiently waiting for you locals to put a plan together...

We are also dragging along 3 others who met us in Vegas for the shows last year.

SF is a two hour drive away from me, so I have no idea what the locals do for fun.

Last year we went to the Pig & Whistle ( http://www.pig-and-whistle.com/ ), but that was a mile away from the Fillmore.

We can do that again, but I'd love to find something closer to the venue.

it is not necessarily close to The Fillmore, 'bout a 5 minute cab ride, but "Ireland 32" is a good bar with a killer jukebox, and two doors down from that is a joint called "Fezzies" or "Fizzies" - can't quite remember through the fog in my brain, but what I do remember is that the owner of this L-shaped bar only hires stunning beautiful asian girls to bartend, best of both worlds...eye candy with liquid candy...DELIGHTFUL!

we used to go to "Maddog in the Fog", but it was bought out and the pub atmosphere is no longer there, ...SO DON'T GO THERE if you haven't been there in a while...

ZEITGEIST is a great place as well with a pool table, jukebox, and outside patio with tons of tables....

Does anyone have any meeting places ready for SF?
Shanghai Kelly's?
O'Reilly's
What good pubs are near the Fillmore?

Welp - I'm off camping for a few days, so I won't see any new developments between now and Sunday.

I'll be at the Pig & Whistle around 6:00ish on Sunday. I'll see people there, unless I'm all alone. If that happens then I'll see people at the show.

Anyone up for a drink at the Absamsam in the Haight District

I love this bar-Ab Sam Sam, at around Haight Ashbury...killer martinis! Anyone interested in meeting there before the show let me know! Busch

Fillmore in SF

It's general admission at the Fillmore, so you can pick your own poison.

1. Get there early, find a table upstairs (where there is a bar), push them together with fans and have a blast with a close and unobstructed view. Don't get the back tables.

2. Get there early, find a table downstairs (where there is a bigger bar), push them together with fans and have a blast bitching the whole time you can't see anything due to people standing up.

3. Meet across the street at an easy going, old blues place where scalpers and people going to that particular show go for cheaper drinks. Have a blast, run over the road when the excitement hits the bar the Pogues are actually going on. See #2 about the view.

4. Meet somewhere else and have a blast with Pogues fans, catch a frantic cab ride because we're bound to be late. Push your way up front to one making temporary enemies to one of the best shows you'll see live.

Unless you're at a back table upstairs, the sound is beautiful.

Choice is yours: pick your poison. Mine's Gin.

Boom Boom Room?

I love the Pig & Whistle (used to drink there quite often) but the Boom Boom Room is practically across the street from the Fillmore and should have plenty of room and a full bar.

This seems like the logical choice so after the rest of my group rises from the dead (long night in Santa Cruz last night) I will suggest this. DzM hope you read this post and meet us at the Boom Boom Room instead of the Pig & Whistle.

I'm not 21 yet so I won't be participating in any drinking, but I'll be wearing a green Ben Sherman and will most likely be at the very front if anyone wants to say hi.
