Wolvespogue, sorry to hear you're not going to Manchester, I was looking forward to meeting you again.

I thought I would try Nottingham this year for a change as previous experiences at GMEX or whatever it's now called have not been so good. How far is the gog from the old trip to Jerusalem? Only pub I can remember in Nottingham........

Don't go Soulfinger, those forkers at Green King have bought it, and ruined the Kimbo. Get yourself into the Newshouse on Canal Street for a drop of the local brew. It's only a 2 minute stagger to that dreadful Ice Arena thing from there.
Sorry Shane, I didn't quite catch that....

great pub, and great ale they serve in it.
no Pogues for me this year. last year I flew Milan to Glasgow, but this year I don't have the money to repeat that, and I hope to graduate 8)
Then they'll take you to Cloughprior
Shove you in the ground
But you'll stick your head back out and shout

Nottingham Meet

Post Mon Dec 03, 2007 12:20 pm

Not being from this area, what pubs will fellow Medusans be heading for before/after the Gig and how far/near are they from the venue?

I'm a long time reader but infrequent poster on here. Last few years I have done Manchester where not only the gig but the pubs beforehand have been fantastic. The Pogues sing-along in Waxy's pre-gig has been excellent.

This year I'm doing Nottingham and was hoping someone on here would suggest a pub for a similar pre-gig experience. I had a walk near the venue a few weeks ago when OAFC were in town. The nearest pub I spotted was The Pit and Pendulum. From past experience this isn't really a sing-along-a-Pogues type venue.

Please, Notts folk, make suggestions. I'll be in Nottingham city centre from 5pm. Anywhere with a good pint and a suitable jukebox we can make our own?

I am also in the same boat I have not been to Nottingham for over 10 years. I will be driving over arriving around tea time so let me know where you are meeting up and hopefully I can join you for a couple of pints..

Ditto.

I'm a Londoner and I have no idea about the area at all, or where the arena is, or where I can find a cheap place to drink all day. Me and my mate are taking the National Express up in the afternoon and coming back at 3 in the morning. Any advice or anyone wanting to meet up?

Good Pubs in Nottingham

Post Tue Dec 11, 2007 10:09 pm

Plenty of good Irish pub's still around in nottingham, but sadly not in the city centre. As it's a Friday night, the City Centre will be heaving and you can't really go wrong for a lively drink due to the huge number of pubs we have here. Pub's I'd recommend that are nearest to the (soulless) venue:

The Castle - Lower Parliment Street (Good pre-gig atmosphere)
The Old Angel - Hockley (proper punk pub)
Bunker's Hill - Lower Parliment St (right next to venue - good atmosphere and beer to boot)
The Social - Talbot Street (Super cool pub/music venue)
Formans - Forman Street (another proper punk pub opposite the Cornerhouse complex. Bit further away, about a 20 min walk but worth it)

I'm sure you'll all enjoy your trip to Nottingham. It really is a great place, rather than the OK Coral, like the papers would have you believe.

Shame bloody Liverpool won't be coming next month, hey Phil? Sigh.....

Last time I saw Liverpool at the City Ground, they had Michael Owen with them. That's when I knew it would be a loooong time before they'd be back. No striker ever prowled the City Ground turf better than he did, except maybe Nigel Clough.

Thanks for that RHaP. I'll give a few of those a try.
