The Pogues and Manchester

Post Wed Aug 29, 2007 9:26 pm

Today I got an interesting email from "Ticketline" offering me a pre-sale slot and discount on the Manchester gig tickets. I quote:

"The band disappointed with their performance in Manchester last year and so would also like to offer everyone who saw that show the chance to get their presale tickets for the new Manchester date with £5 off the standard price!"

Is this for real? An attempt to get my credit card details? I'm not sure who I got the tickets from last year - it could of been Ticketline I suppose.

Oh, and the link included in the email doesn't work.

Thanks. I'll check back to see if I did buy from Ticketline. I'm very worried about supplying my credit card details to a site contained in an email BUT if they are scammers, how did they find out I attended the gig in Manchester last year? So perhaps I don't need to worry.

I've booked my Manchester ticket using the link in the email. :D

It's only given me a General Admission ticket - no allocated seat, and the cost, including fee and postage was about £28. Has the site applied the £5 discount?

I'm not sure how available the £5 discount is. My understanding is that it was only (somehow) available to those who attended the show in Manchester last year. Glad to hear that Billy Bragg is the "support" act, although the email I got yesterday suggests the support is The Holloways.

Also, does the Manchester Central (GMEX) only have standing room (ie no seating)? Hence my General Admission ticket type. Thanks.

The website for the Manchester Central is not very clear about venues(bands) for seating etc. When i checked Ticketline it said it was a standing venue. it has auditoriums for presentations but I think live bands must be standing only. Not 100% sure though

I think you are right - the venue appears to be all standing.

This is the reason I haven't ordered yet, my dad will only go if there's a seat. So does anyone know for sure?

Also, I went to the M.E.N gig last year, anyone know how I can get a discount? I still have the stub I'm sure!

Tickets for Brixton was £29.50 + fees and postage so you have probably got the discount.

I can't remember exactly, but I think that once the standing area in this venue is sold, this gig is considered "SOLD OUT", though strictly speaking of course, it's not. This is because so few Pogues fans want seats. "SOLD OUT" in this and some other venues usually means "...but SEATING may be available" and almost always is.

That's got to be right Philip. I went to Newcastle Carling academy today and got tickets for the gig. They didn't ask if i wanted seats they just gave me the stalls tickets(What i wanted anyway), and I know that the Academy has got seating upstairs.
