Accustomed as I am to voluntarily paying $120/£60 for theatre tickets vand considerably more for opera, and something of the same order for football, I don't feel the need to defend our ticket prices anyway.

How is this even a debate? The Pogues can decide to charge whatever the hell they feel like. It is their time and effort. If people do not want to pay it then they wont, simple as that. It's all about supply and demand, and if I was in their shoes I would definately be out to make as much money from this as possible. The fans are not going to volunteer to pay your mortgage for you are they? I pay £35 once a year to see this band play live. How could that ever be interpreted as alienating the 'working man'. hell even if they charged more I'd probably still consider it (don't take that as an invitation though).

BTW Philip - You're a Forest fan right? Do you honestly mean to tell me you pay in the region of £60 to watch that? :lol: Oh and make a note in your diary on January 12th. Beisty's coming to town, and last year we did you 3-1 :twisted: (although you managed to counter that with a 1-3 at Brisbane Road).
Don't pray in our schools, and we wont think in your churches. Deal?

I think it is reccomendable to see the price in relation to other prices. Over here in Germany, when you hire an electrician or a plumber, you will be charged about 40 to 50 Euro/hour. So what's wrong with 50 Euro for over two hours of entertainment ( especially if the perfromer is not just one plumber, but eight Pogues + crew )?

On the other hand: a plumber doesn't 'plumb' for a crowd of 2000.. :lol:

hilarious thread

Post Tue Oct 16, 2007 2:49 pm

I can't believe I have been away from the board for so long, this is a great discussion thread

::start rant::
Listen, the pogues can charge what they want, and people will complain no matter what. Since there are like twenty band members, they each only get 1/20th of the earnings. I have no problems with them cashing in a little bit since they are amazing musicians, and you never know what will be the last show. $60 or $70 is the going price for a show like this, and in my opinion even it is even appropriate. You can go see a huge band for around $100 - $200 like Justin Timberlake or the Stones, or even comedians go for $100 a seat sometimes. People pay $300/seat for opera tickets or good baseball or hocket tickets. Hockey games last around 1.5 hrs only.
I see that someone mentioned the US and NYC in particular being expensive. Well yeah transportation and lodging are expensive, but that is not the fault of the Pogues, and nyc is the best city in the world, so you should consider yourself lucky that they are not playing in some hokey joint in Hartford CT. And I don't even want to hear any europeans complaining about how much it costs, since the US dollar will most likely be down the toilet and in the sewer by next spring.
::End Rant::

Hey, go look at how much Hannah Montana tickets are going for on Ebay. You can't touch a decent ticket for under $800.

Its all about what the market will pay.
What kind of fuckery is this?

it's not the price of the tickets that's the issue, it's the bastard companies that legally tout them with their handling fees, 'convenience' fees and postage rates that are double what they should be. If I've got to pay £2 for a small postcard sized object to be posted, it should be recorded mail at least.
I wish I'd done biology for an urge within me wanted to do it then

I think we can all agree that most of the ticket fees are a complete rip-off. Luckily there are other ticket companies sprouting up who only charge 1/3 or 1/2 of what ticketmaster charges, such as ticketweb. There's no doubt it is a scam because they charge you more to have tickets emailed to you (which costs them nothing) than to have it sent via postal mail.

Went to see a show at a theatre a couple of weeks ago and was going to order tickets in advance from one of the vendors, can't remember which one(Robbinyoubastardblindtickets...or something similar) and they wanted to charge an admin fee for each ticket and then charge me £2.50 to pick the tickets up at the theatre????. Rang up the venue and got them for cost price instead.

Which is always the best way. And if you're local enough to pick up the tickets yourself, that's even better, and even cheaper.

Annoyingly, some venues won't let you buy your tickets from them over the phone. Birmingham Academy being one of them. :evil:

Pogues are well worth it

Post Sat Oct 27, 2007 7:03 pm

Just perusing the site and am amused by this discussion.

Any of us who are big fans know that a Pogues concert is the best value in town. The sloppiest Pogues show is better than 99% of the crap out there.

Let's put this in perspective. I remember going to Popes's shows in the 90's thinking that there was no way Shane was going to be able to tour again and here 10 + years later he looks/sounds better than ever (well not ever!). So I feel very fortunate to have been able to introduce the band to my kids, who are now die-hard fans. And talk about expense: I frigging flew 7 people to London/Dublin last winter for the tour, and it was the best money ever spent! With kids you spend so much money on crap that means nothing in the end, but these shows are so memorable and when I am in my grave, my kids will still be talking about them!!

Hope to see everyone in Anaheim and Wiltern!!!! Busch

ps: I do have one complaint though: when, if ever, will there be a new Pogues album..I can't believe Shane is not writing any new songs?

The fact that my favorite band of all time is charging $95 to get in the door.....is awful.

I've always been a fan, always wanted to have the opportunity to go to a show, always wanted to meet Shane,....I can't go. The cost it far out my league.
I wish this tour was dedicated to their actual die-hard fans. Who can afford this but the stupid upper crust wanna be kids who can afford to get shit-faced on fancy drinks and act like fucking goons?

This has always been a dream, wish I could go.

Thanks for the writing the best songs of all time.

xoxo

Jeannette

Guess you don't want to know what Bruce Springsteen is charging these days when he tours Europe

Always paid extra for Bruce tickets, Don't mind paying a bit extra for a great show and a great artist. Paid £180 to take my wife and kids to see Van Morrison in Newcastle on Friday night.He loves himself and couldn't care less about the people that went to see him(it was sold out). The "encore" was him walking to the side of the stage"we could still see him from our seats" and then coming on and singing Gloria and then walking off again. The band waved and thanked the audience and that was it.
I don't suppose he would ever visit this site, but just in case"Fuck off you tosser" :lol: I feel so much better now!
