i would have rather seen the pogues
unfortunately they havent played there in a long time (ever??)

I have seen the Pogues in Toronto at least twice.. once at the Palais Royale in 87 and the other time at Wonderland.. I think it was 89.. the Popes have played there as well (Shane didn't appear to the one I made it to in 02).

$95 isn't a lot for a ticket. Average price in Tokyo to see any "foreign" band is 70 US.. bands such as U2 were well over 100 for a shit seat in the upper rows of some shit stadium. I would gladly pay the 95 if someone would spot my airfare over.. any takers?? :o

Sounds reasonable enough to me. I'd pay it if they were charging that to play in Australia.

Just pay it. If you don't think the show was worth $65 I will take up a collection among the Medusans. Not to refund your ticket but for psychiatrict help.

Band for the working man?

Post Mon Oct 08, 2007 11:45 pm

Ok... I've been a long time fan of The Pogues... and as their songs suggest, they are (or at least one would think they would be) a band for and about (roughly speaking of course) the working class people.

I was excited to see them coming to town on their tour. I was going to get to see one of the bands I've loved for years!
BUT! ...I really have to ask why the hell they would charge $65 for a show!

What's the story? Why the hell are they charging so damn much for their tickets? Why aren't The Pogues walking the walk???

I just saw The Mekons for $15 this friday... now that's how a band for the working class people really acts!

When money's tight and hard to get
And your horse has also ran,
When all you have is a heap of debt -
SOME BLOODY MEKONS IS YOUR ONLY BAND.

WHO the HELL is Mekons ???????? maybe thats why they don´t cost that much.

On Friday i´m going to see Spotted Dogs and that will cost me ~ 10 $ and they are wery good, but how much i do like them i wouldn´t compare them to The Pogues. Why is Rolling Stones charging over 100 $ for the worst seats?

Buy the tix and be happy, not that it matters but i pay a whole lot more to go to UK and Ireland every year to see them, and many more of the Medusan comunity does the same. That doesn´t mean we are better fans or anything but it would give you a hint on how good they are and that they´ll deserve the price asked. 8)

Have a great time at the show.

I think 'Working Man' and others do bring up some valide points, worthy of discussion. Unfortunatly fans of any band/sports team tke criticism of thier heroes very badly for example the critical reaction to the last two Pogues albums.

Although I am only trying to stir up a sensible argument, some points here are worthy of debating, yet this will not change anything, I am happy with ticket prices, but it may be time to understand some people feel short changed.

I'm not at all sure you're right. We have been entirely honest about our position on this right from the start [or re-start, more accurately]. Much as we love the music, each other, and the opportunity to play some more shows together, there is not the slightest chance we would have reformed for less than the substantial amount of money first offered in 2001. I'm not sure there's any real reason why concertgoers should be expected to understand that we spent over 10 years touring our asses off so that other people, but definitely not us, could get wealthy and that this time around, the profit ratios would, decisively, be reversed. But nevertheless, that is one of the most important factors in why we cost what we do.

Accustomed as I am to voluntarily paying $120/£60 for theatre tickets vand considerably more for opera, and something of the same order for football, I don't feel the need to defend our ticket prices anyway. I realise that does nothing to put our tickets within the reach of a fair number of people, unlike Opera - tickets can be had for £7 at Covent Garden - but I can't help the price structuring at rock venues and the attendant security headaches.

Besides, even when we do FREE shows, as we did once this Summer, we still have to take flak about accepting large fees from the local council, implying that, once again, we are ROBBING the people of their hard-earned tax money. When you are in a position where you just can't win, I say don't enter the competition.

An absolutely ridiculous argument.
If you want to see anything you pay the asking price.
No one forces anyone to purchase a ticket.

If you want to see the pogues you pay your money, you do have a choice!
