Tour Date in Drogheda on July 6th???

Post Fri May 04, 2007 10:17 pm

Hi everyone!

I've searched through the forum but can't find any mention of this tour date. Any confirmation on it?

I rang the venue (the Europa Hotel) to see what the story was. The guy on the phone said the tickets were fifteen euro and that it was the band minus Shane MacGowan. When I questioned him on this, he told me that MacGowan hadn't played with the Pogues in years?!?!?!

Tell the guy he's a wanker. The Pogues do not appear without Mr MacGowan and its been many years since anyone got to see the Pogues for 15 yoyos.

Waking up to read Philip calling a guy a wanker makes me laugh. Thanks for the first chuckle of the day Philip

It must be difficult playing at a festival for a band sometimes - on one hand you have the opportunity to play your music to people may not have necessarily heard it before - a brand new potential audience. On the other hand, you have the preconceived ideas of a few morons like the ones that are shown on that page that mean they're not even receptive to a new musical experience.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion... mine is that there's no point knocking something until you're heard it and if you're going to focus on the like of Shane's teeth rather than listen to the music, then you've really no business being at a festival where, by it's very nature, there will be a large percentage of stuff you haven't heard before.

Now that being said, I would imagine if I hadn't seen The Pogues before, the very notion of Shane's teeth (or any other popular legend surrounding the band, the alcohol-indulgence etc) would pique my curiosity enough to at least go along and see what they were like.

Oh lord. I do believe that that's my first rant on these here fora. I'll try and restrain myself in future!

Peace and love always,
John C.
