June '07 in Chicago

Post Fri Apr 27, 2007 2:08 pm

Up until recently, http://www.shanemacgowan.com had a long list of scheduled shows for 2007 including two @ The Congress Theater in Chicago, IL, for 05/03/07 and 06/03/07. The only tour date now is a festival in Sweden way the hell in October.
And the Congress posted their concerts for June, and I'm not seeing The Pogues scheduled.
Anyone know what's going on?

The best way to explain this is to say that if 9/11 had happened in Europe, it would be written 11/9. The Chicago shows happened in March (03) and Sweden is on August - 08 - 10th. (10).

Ok, I can understand a mess over dates like 05/03/07 or 12/03/07. But what about 16/03/07 ?! Didn't it perplex? And did you ask yourself why Pogues played only on thirds of every month?

People are never interested in where else you are playing. They only want to know if you are playing near them.

I have had the same "problems" in the US every time they look at my drivers licene for clubs or for buying beer, they never understood it til i explaind it. i mean how hard can it be to know that theres not 19 month a year even in Europe.

Anyway it got me in to alot of clubs during the Fotball World Cup in USA 1994 coz the bouncers didn´t understand how to read the licence. (I was underaged at that time) :D 8)

When I checked, there were only two dates in March, so it looked like 05/03/07 and 06/03/07 and with only two dates on the 3rd of a month, I didn't give it much thought. There were only a few dates posted besides those two and 16/03/07 was not one of them so the realization never happened.

Plus, my brother is graduating from Chicago's Second City School of Improv. in the beginning of June, so I was excited when I recognized a date I'd be in Chicago.

I thought I'd take him for a graduation celebration-so I only ever watched the Congress Theater's website waiting for the June postings.

Thank you for setting me straight, though.

Wow that sounded snarky. I'm not never interested in distant venues, but my interest level definitely depends on the financial feasibility of me making such a trip. Plus, I’m fresh off a farm and out of college; it took me a while before I heard The Pogues and now I want badly to see a show. I’m trying.

There's absolutely no reason why anyone would do more than glance at part of a datesheet that is not relevant to them. We had some great shows in Chicago and I'm sorry you missed them. Some other time maybe.

Pleased to hear there are still some things that come fresh off a farm.

Not all people think like this to be fair Mr C.
I, and a few others on here, like nothing more than a jaunt. Though I always come to see you in Manchester I always enjoy the trips to see the Pogues in other places more. 8)

absolutely! If it weren't for The Pogues, I would probably never have been to Chicago. As for London, San Francisco, and Vegas - I probably would have seen these places eventually, but the Pogues gigs made me get off my butt and book those plane tickets! And there's a special pride in walking into a foreign pub and having a cold pint with fellow Medusans, isn't there?

What? None of 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th (all of them of March)? And they call it a schedule... What can I say? Just "Long live DzM!" who keeps the track, dutifully puts dates on front page and bothers to name months instead of coding them...
