Fantasy gig venue

Post Thu Apr 19, 2007 9:59 pm

Pointless but fun thread alert!

If you could have the Pogues play live anywhere you wanted (APART FROM YOUR HOME TOWN BECAUSE THAT'S A BORING ANSWER), where would it be?

I'd go for -

1) Glastonbury Festival (this year please).

2) Outside in a big forest somewhere. I saw The Levellers in Dalby Forest a few years back and it was an ace venue. I could well cope with that.

3) Download Festival. Just to confuse, and educate, all the skinny Emo kids. And cos it would be brilliantly bizarre, if almost ludicrously improbable.

On you go.

EDIT: Oirish Rover is allowed to pick his home town because as we know he is not permitted to travel anywhere else, ever. Everybody else can be more creative.

Academy 2 in Manchester. Not becasue it is near, so much as becasue it is so small, it would be amazing.

1) Gloucester Guildhall. Totally unlikely venue because it's not that big a place, but it has a fabulous sprung dance floor, and I really fancy pogoing up and down on it to The Pogues!

2) One of the UK summer out in the sticks festivals -- something like Solfest in Cumbria

3) My back garden, to piss off the miserable old git who lives over the fence

I think I'm right in saying it was the very first reunion show we did in 2001, a sort of public warm-up.

Wouldn't work here, Shaz. The next-door neighbour loves the Pogues. (And is, of course, not miserable at all.)

I'd have said the Cambridge Folk Festival. Partly because it would be a dream, and partly to enjoy the reaction of the furniture-wielding folk crusties who'd doubtless have to walk out muttering yet again.

But dammit, I see we're not allowed to nominate our hometown.

Brixton is ace.. so I'm not begging to see them elsewhere. Other than Brixton I'd love the intimacy of the 100 club or the Mean Fiddler.

Oh and I'd travel to Serbia to see them play

I’d like to see them perform on the International Space Station. Beat that for ambition. :)

Well, I reckon for starters that the Medusa clock's adjusted to GMT, not BST, so it was actually 8.07 that you wrote it. My post (the one before yours) is timed as 7.03, and I certainly wasn't online at that ungodly hour. 8.03 more likely.

Can't explain the rest of the time gap, though. :)

Or just leave work an hour earlier and if the boss says anything just show him that you posted at that time according to the Forum  :D

I'd love to see them again at the academy in Glasgow. But I'd love to see them all pressed in a tiny pub 8)
Then they'll take you to Cloughprior
Shove you in the ground
But you'll stick your head back out and shout
"Let's have another round!"
