OK Guest, since you are the true "pouge" fan, my first post was to inform
you why the song wasn't being done, just to be nice.

Funny, all of the people who went to the show with me last week, none
of them were too concerned about the lack of FT, because we were informed
by Mr. Chevron about the reason it wasn't played. The Pogues have a few
other pretty decent songs, you know, makes for a good concert  .

But, since you are BEGGING along with the other forum fans (aka Guests)
to hear the song, I am sure they will change their mind just for you.
I'm done, fire away :P

Heh, people are funny. They amuse me...like a clown.

Seems most pouge fans would just be thankful for a performance after the past couple days...but sure, beg for something they have already said they can't and won't perform. Makes perfect sense. </sarcasm>

DzM, I meant no harm with that last comment AND seein' as that was a guest, maybe they don't know any of the background stuff (both with the FT female part and the fact that the remaining shows were almost cancelled), but still as a pouge fan, it was kinda funny.

Just tell him to wear a long sleve shirt next time at JJ's. And put some ice on it. For F's sake!

Look at it this way. Now you have an excuse to see the boys on their West Coast Tour (as if one is needed). There will be a west cost tour right....?

In reality, if the current set list was replaced completely by other Pogues songs the show would still be worth every penny.

OK 'MIKE FROM BOSTON' OBVIOUSLY YOU ARE THE NUMBER 1 FAN OF THE POUGES! good for you!!! I also was at both shows at the "Avalon" last fri and sat night I agree there are plenty of great songs they did a number of my favorite "thousands are sailing","fiesta",rainy night in soho","ned of the hill" but I guess i missed the part where it was announced about "fairytale"I don't see how, didn't have the orange wristband so I wasn't drunk...stood in the front row, so I wasn't drowned in a crowd...and the explanation about ella was short and SWEET but you did not inform me......sorry you such a bitter spirit......HAPPY ST. PATTY'S DAY...SEE YA AT THE BALLROOM TONIGHT?????

I've pointed it out before, but here goes..........

Even when Kirsty was alive, "Fairytale Of New York" did not have a regular place in the show and its performance was usually dependent on both Kirsty's availability and the time of year. We realise "Fairytale" is not Just For Christmas but we had grown uncomfortable with the idea that audiences were beginning to automatically expect the number just because we had done it on some successive tours. We felt "Fairytale" would return all the sweeter for its vacation and, I have to say, we are delighted that most audiences appear to agree with us that our songbook is strong enough to withstand its omission. On a final note, and with due respect for the undoubted vocal talents of many female Pogues fans, "Fairytale Of New York" is not a Karaoke song, at least not when the Pogues perform it. Happy Christmas...........

Mr. Chevron, thanks for coming on again and explaining the"fairytale" Imeant no disrespect in asking that question and every Pogues song is strong,I had no idea asking would cause such an uproar with one (or more of your fans)but in my own defense I am a professional singer who has shared the stage a time or two with Tom Pacheco, Garth Hudson,Levon Helm, and Jim Weider from "The Band"and "Fairytale" would not have been performed as if it were a Karaoke song. I do however respect your stand and will enjoy the show tonite at the ballroom to my fullest. I hope Shane is healing well?.

So true, there's no one song in the Pogues catalog that any show is dependent on. You could pull any song and replace it with just about any other. For instance, tonight I would drop Broad Majestic Shannon and add Sea Shanty....but that's just me :)

This is also true in a mix tape sense. When i've made mix tapes/cds for friends i've always had to put AT LEAST 2 or 3 tracks from the Pogues. It's just too difficult only putting one song.

That's nice and all, but that's from 2006 Sean.
