Imagine that! Even the strongest Medusanista wouldn't survive that! :wink:
On the other hand, if all 8 would break a leg, maybe, MAYBE, people would understand why they cancel the show. :lol:

People would still think it was a cop-out.

First of all I hope that Shane gets well soon and that he's out of pain.

I do understand of course that people are disappointed, but such things can happen, no matter if you want to see the Pogues, the Who, Stink or Elton John. A client of mine once spent an awful load of money to see Sir Elton John. Unfortunately Sir Elton seemed to find the audience not sufficiently enthusiastic to his performance, so he decided to end the concert after about 40 minutes. Now this would piss me off, not a cancellation due to a severe medical problem.

Concerning the idea of playing without Shane I had mixed feelings, but came to the conclusion that playing without him would be wrong and that they took the right decision: Sure, they would be great even without him, but that would be imho the wrong sign to both audience and public. When they started to do shows without him back in the old days, it marked the beginning of the end imho. Doing that now would probably make people think that it's starting all over again and imho this would bear the danger of discrediting the band's professional attitude and especially Shane's newfound professionalism. Yes, indeed, I think his current behaviour seems professional:
He did the show in Manchester right after the sad news concerning Tom. Sure, it wasn't their best show. But I'm glad that they performed.
And managing to get through a show despite an injury as he did in Boston ist professional as well.
It the Pogues would have performed without him in New York this might have soothed the emotions of the audience that evening, but might have damaged their reputation. Thus strategically they did the only right thing to do.

Nice take, and I agree. BTW, cannot stand SEJ.

"Your short tour schedule leaves little room for error. The limited engagements force people to travel. When things break you end up with pissed people that traveled a long way. You should do a 'proper' tour with more time between shows and more shows around the country. Then the band can recover in between shows, and if bad things happen you don't get people complaining that they traveled a long way and got screwed."

At least I think that's the gist of it.

1 leg == 23 pages of crap.

23 pages of crap * 8 Pogues == 184 pages of crap.

2 legs each * 8 Pogues == 16 legs.

Then 16 legs * 23 pages of crap == 368 pages.

That's a lot of crap to shovel.

I saw The Pogues at the Orphium on Sunday night Saw them last year at the Orphium on 14 March as it was our 25th wedding anniversary. We thought it would be a fine ending to our 25 years together. I did not see Shane fall. I did see Shane limping around I thought it was bunions.

As a matter of fact we had tickets to see Tony Rice last night, 14 March, at BB Kings in NYC. Tony injured his back and did not show up. David Bromberg filled in for him, it was a great show. I had tickets to see Merle Haggard last year, he had a cold and did not show. I booked Melanie for a music festival in NJ last year, she did not show, ate a bad clam............. shite happens.
