All the "fans", no matter how far traveled or otherwise reorganized, just sit back and think about what you're complaining here. WInd yourselves back 5 years and realize that we are extremely LUCKY to have this unique band going and kicking better than ever. I have never dreamt in my wildest fantasies that this might be coming true, let alone repeatedly. I went to London 3 times to see them, saw them 3 times last year in NYC, each single time wary of the very real chance that there are eight+ humans involved who can all crack or bail out for one human reason or another. As said before, I totally understand the adrenalin built up before coming to a Pogues show and the need to let it out, but if this is the worst thing that ever happened to you, I envy you. And if you cannot find some sort of alternative (granted, not anywhere close to equivalent) entertainment in New York F**cking City for a few hours...well, no comment.
Sure there's lost $$$, but that is a very real risk in traveling ANYWHERE, at ANY TIME, no matter if for a show or other.

Recall the level of complaint here: Spewing swearing accusations cause the Pogues cancelled a show due to a serious injury in 2007... this short-sightedness blows my mind. Again, wind back a few years and think about it.
When you told your friends/collegues you're going to see the Pogues... have you not been asked whether Shane's still alive? Nothing's for granted, let's be happy they're here altogether, and themselves more frustrated than anyone I'm certain.

I don't know the median age of Pogues members, but I am truly impressed by the energy they display on a nightly basis in 2007, >20 years after formation and have been surprised that there actually has NOT been a cancellation yet in all the recent years (that's true, right?).

With Shane being injured, and all due respect to justified venting and frustration, it's nothing but outrageously selfish, childish and uncalled for to belittle serious injury, accuse the band of lying, blame Philip of all people. All just for not having the expected image of a drunken Shane but one in a wheelchair. Get a grip, people. The Pogues do not deserve such "fans" who are probably of the kind to start laughing when seeing Shane fall on stage due to alcoholic imbalance.

No matter how the tour continues, I surely hope for a quick recovery, I thank Philip for standing up and posting in this hate-filled place, and no cancellation or anything likewise would ever even slightly touch my love for this band, it's way too deep. Shit happens. I will always raise a glass on what they have given to me. Slainte all, good recovery to Shane, and I agree with your (tough) choice to cancel.

Thanks Philip, your patience and devotion here is truly appreciated, and hope that the band will not take these few ridiculous posts here as representative of their fan base in NYC.

Hopefully see you all Saturday, as happy as ever!

To all the people crying on these forums, Johnny Cash may have felt like you deserve this. . .

People are travelling, staying in hotels, spending a lot of money and tonights weather is rain/sleet and then snow... To have people standing out in that for hours to then hear it's cancelled again is kinda fucked up.

Right. That was my only real beef with the situation, and something the other seven band members had no control over, which is why venting at them isn't fair. Since reading about Shane's tumble I had a feeling the show might be canceled, and made sure to check on here before heading to the city that things were still on. The rest is history.

Rather than take a chance with tonight's show, I think I'd rather just keep the fantastic St. Paddy's show from last year a pristine memory.

Phillip: What is the decision for tonight's (Thursday) show? Are The Pogues definately playing?? And....... Will Shane be there? I need to know in order to make/cancel expensive travel plans. Thanks

a broken bone... people are begrudging him a night in (presumably) a cast.

I traveled from San Jose CA to see the fucking show... so I've as high a ground to stand on and whine as any of the teary eyed, whiny, diaper-wearing, pee-shy, piss ants complaining.

BUT it seems like a seriosuly spill was taken on stage... I see no way I can find flaw in Shane's taking the necessary time to heal and rest

and its fucking NYC... I assure you I found a decent place to drink and made an evening of it none the less.
Stop whining...

Quick healing to Shane and maybe...maybe we'll all have a decent go of it this evening

Exactly. The Pogues are not to be taken for granted. This blip in plans was a reality check. I hope Shane's being taken care of and can still go on, but if he can't, and they don't, all we can do is pray for a next time, somewhere.

Although it is not quite the same you can still belly up at a NYC bar with a good juke box and pump the dollars in playing nothing but Pogues for two hours. Get some fans together.. have a few sing a longs etc. The beer will be cheaper and it would at least put you in a good mood. If you don't care to drink alcohol I am sure they have soda water or juice..

Wow, don't you just know that some of these people will pass by a fatal car wreck and curse the bleeding corpse for making them late to work?

The man was injured. Have some compassion.

Poor guy.

if they were at fault for their own crash... But playing devil's advocate here, how does it take days and an hour before their set to take stage to then cancel the show? I know there's the whole "I am cool because I don't care" idea on this board and that's fine if you want to live that way... But if Shane's health is at the center of everyone's concern why did it take till the time it did to decide "woooops, this is serious! Better cancel the show!"? For his health, does this concern you?
