For all of you bitchin' about this

You don't have a leg to stand on.

If you believe the statements about the way the band does things now then you should be satisfied with the fact they won't do a show half-assed.

If you don't believe the statements and think it's just Shane being the "old" Shane then you shouldn't be surprized that something like this could happen.

Either way STFU, it is what it is...

Their phone # is (212) 420-8080. I just called and they will refund your credit card over the phone. They also let you know that the tickets for last night will be honored tonight.

I was one of the unlucky who traveled hours to the Roseland only to find the show cancelled. I was not the only one to utter, "Fuck Shane" and "Fuck the Pogues." I think that initial anger is totally justified. (I think Shane himself might be the first to utter, "Fuck so-and-so" in the same situation.) I also think those criticizing the angry as crybabies might feel differently if they had rearranged their lives to make the show. The mixture of disappointment and betrayal is natural. Frankly, I'm not sure I will ever again travel to see the band. This from someone who has seen them a dozen times over 23 years. But I do understand the inherent risk in buying a ticket to a Pogues show.

I do think the band's and Phil Chevron's apologies and regrets are sincere. The other members of the band are surely as chagrined as we. They have traveled a great distance to perform, and could not. They will suffer the financial repercussions of canceling a date at the last minute. Instead of playing a show and making some money, they will surely lose money. They too have to consider cost of travel, rooms, meals, staff salaries and the considerable cost of canceling the venue and the lost income of refunded tickets. If they rest of the tour is canceled, they may indeed come out of this at a net loss.

I wish Shane a speedy recovery, but we all need to understand - band members and audience - this strange, enabling relationship we have with the man. He has been a musical genius. He is still a figure of incredible charisma. We all interact with him with a sense of wonder and dread. Like many of our great artists, he and his art are compelling because they teeter in a balance between self-destruction and celebration of life. The demons that drive him are what make him so attractive. We see his power and his frailty, and they are mesmerizing. I wonder if Shane weren't dancing on the brink of disaster if any of this would be quite as interesting. What one of us has not wondered as we watched Shane wobble with a death grip on the mic stand, "Will he fall? Will he fall?" Well, this time he fell, and here we are a dozen web pages into ruminating upon it.

I hope for the sake of audience and the band that the show goes on. If it does not, I won't be surprised in the least. In a practical sense, I hope the band decides earlier to cancel any shows that need canceling. This is the least they owe a faithful audience.

I agree with your sentiments sir, but it is a fine line between allowing freedom to opinions and fora oppression.

People have a right to be pissed at a cancelled show, but where did the martyrs come from? And if Joe Strummer was there last night, was Lauren Bacall singing Fairytale? All the whingeing has me thinking of going down to Irving Plaza now just to get tickets for tonight.

Get well soon, Shane, and many thanks to Phillip (and the rest of the band who take time to post here). I hope to see you Saturday.
I like this bad set and I like getting drunk at luncheon.

Have you let people take advantage of you you're whole life? How about allowing a little freemdom of speech as well or are you willing to give that up too? People paid a lot of money for tickets, travel, hotels, people took days off from work... these people are adults not kids (as you probably were when this other show was cancelled) and their time and money are precious, much moreso than a band that goes days without taking care of an issue and cancels the show AFTER the doors were scheduled to be open. How about letting some people vent here, not every one allows the world to dictate their lives for them.

I'm sure venting is fine - it's the idiots who are saying that Shane is faking it or that the band cancelled because tonight's show wasn't sold out that are pissing off the Fora regulars.

I don't get the Daltrey Bronchitis and a Drunkard tripping downstairs correlation. I also know its alot easier for someone who just saw three shows in Boston to call someone a baby for missing an event he has dreamed of for years. I love The Pogues and Mr Chevron is true class for addressing the issues at hand. I hope Shane gets back on his feet and entertains us for years to come. Its just human nature to be jealous and hurt that somehow hes gonna be able to miracously perform 24 hours later. Bad timing I suppose. I actually got to see a really good singer at Rockys though Declan Mclaughlin? from Derry. Very good. He used to head The Whole Tribe Sings.
