New York in Video

Post Wed Mar 14, 2007 4:56 pm

Just curious if my idea (from the previous tour actually), of having several Medusans with cameras (or phones these days) record a song each, was total shite?
Of course I would not support this idea if Mr. C (or any other band member) says "no way, jose'" but thought it might be a nice record just for us Medusans (obviously not high quality, but a nice reminder of what we did witness live).
At the Boston Avalon shows i'd say there were at least 20 or so cameras or phones in the air through out the night. Just an interesting project ...if it's possible.
Now, who wants to be the ring leader/organizer for this mini-circus inside another circus? (Mr. C, if i'm stretchin' the bands hospitality regarding the use of personal cameras I apologize, don't mean to step on toes...just love watching the band is all.)
Even if it doesn't happen...everyone have a great time!!!

I have yet to see a camera phone video that was worth watching (or, more accurately, listening to) so I would vote in favor of just watching the show and enjoying the memory.

You know, the old fashioned way.

Sounds suspiciously like Art to me. But, unlike L'Academie Francaise, we will not oppose the project.

This sounds like a great idea. Even if two people taped the same song, maybe it could be edited to show the song from different angles. I think I have the software. The knowledge is something else altogether.
Did the old songs taunt or cheer you, and did they still make you cry?

Editing video is my sideline, so if anyone needs help slapping it together, just let me know.

You are too funny. I sadly was imagining a poor man's version of the new "I Filmed That" Beastie Boys project, but still think this little "project d' art" could work with enough folks adding into it.

Heh, cool, but that sounds much too involved for how I was picturing it. I saw several YouTube "New York Pogues Video Project" Song 1, Song 2, Song 3...or something like that.

What would be frikken nifty (I think) would be to have dozens of these cell phones collectively cover the entire show, then stitch them together in an "we're doing modern art" kinda way. For audio sync the inevitable bootleg track with the video and throw away the phone audio.

(Not that I would encourage that kind of thing.)

;-) I wasn't going to say it outright...for fear someone would run with it and try and sell it. But amongst forum friends...? :) It was basically the impetus for this project in my head.

Sounds cool, now if I could only afford airfare and hotel and tickets. A lot of digital cameras have movie capabilty and a lot of the newer ones can record long enough to do a whole song. Picture quality would be a little better than a camera phone I would think.

Budget issues and principal photography has not even begun?!

We've gone Hollywood already. I think the mistake was booking big-name talent to draw investors. Next time Shane will have to be played by Shane, not Tom Hanks.

I've gotten some pretty decent single-song clips doing this with a not-terribly-high-end digicam, but you definitely need another audio source. When I did it my camera mic was totally overwhelmed and the audio was just static and noise. It's pretty simple to splice in new audio if you have a separate source for it.

My clips definitely need some help in the audio department. The guy screaming "London Girl" is pretty clear, however.
