How about blue cities in red states? A thousand or so liberal music lovers would fit in pretty well in Atlanta or Austin. And Atlanta has nice, mild, snow-free winters. :)

Thing is, you all had lots of chances to see us in Austin, New Orleans, Birmingham Alabama and several other Southern cities between 1987 and 1990, but you never showed up in sufficient numbers to justify the cost of us getting there.

Austin City Limits would be an event that'd make everyone happy. Blue City, Red State, Public Television that can be DIVO'd, DVR'd, VCR'd, etc. "Blue Heaven" would obviously fill in for "Fiesta" as the finale.

How about a gig in Burlington between stops in Boston and Montreal?

I was 12-15 at the time, so I'm absolved of blame, at least. I know nothing about the music business, but I would imagine the atmosphere would be a lot different now, with another generation or two of Pogues' fans out there now.

Out of curiosity, about how large was the attendence at the U.S. shows? A couple thousand per show?

Grievous Angel beat me to it - think of all the Pogues fans that weren't of concert-going age then, or even born (man, that makes me feel old).

On the other hand - I was old enough to see the Pogues in my city back then, and went, apparently. I say "apparently" because I've always said that I only saw them once in the 80s, in DC. Earlier this year I was going through the closet in my bedroom back at my dad's house. Found some old concert tee shirts, including a Pogues shirt from the '88 tour, with dates (including Philly) on the back. Then found some concert pictures, and whoops, there's one of Shane, one of Spider, and one of Philip, all clearly in a (now defunct) Philly club. I had to laugh - what else could I do in the face of such complete evidence of my non-functioning memory?

An Austin show would be a hit, no doubt about it. Don't fall for that red state-blue state stuff - the Pogues would be welcome anywhere!

(Terri, if they ever play near you I am taking you up on that offer!)

Too funny.

Yeah, i'm thinking an Ireland or maybe even London show would be nice...if possible.

Oh, ok. Fine. GROUP HUG! YAY!

Sheesh, it did move quickly from "fuck all you fucking fucks," to "Group  Hug!" awfully quickly.

I'll have to agree with everyone else on this point.....this was before most people had an internet connection, long before Ticketmaster, and Medusa was probably just an idea in some California kid's mind.
Unless you lived in these cities, or had a connection with someone in the know, you wouldn't have heard.
Flash forward to present. Well informed people, and now their kids, are traveling around the globe to see the band, lining up to see sold out shows.

And by the way, Birmingham????

It was a terrific outdoor gig, actually. Place called Schloss Furnace.

Yup, believe it or not. I'm in Tallahassee, Floriduh (it's the capital) and i've had to travel to Birmingham for more than a few shows, because the bands didn't make it over here...or I wanted to see them more than once. Heh, i've gone a few times and it still seems a little odd to me too actually, but they do get good shows.

Just wondering how to put a proposal to this band about doing this top festival in July. They reckon there was 100 000 people at it last year...

1. Look through previous posts (specially certain posts at page #4)
2. If you are still sure you really have some really reasonable proposition:
- get registered
- get management contacts
- contact management and get it interested.

And what happens with spain????, it is years since they do not came here, or why not to Canary Islands??, remember that 15 years ago Michael jakson was here in the Canary Islands for a concert!!, (i didn´t go to see him because i was listening the new pogues album!!! :D )

I mean that this year i tried to go tyo NY from Canary islands, just to see them, but it was real expensive (about 1500 euros at least).
I do not mind to go to Belfast, germany or europe this year, but WHEN????
