Finally got home at 1am (locally) to Halifax this morning.

I only made it to the Sunday show. I didn't even consider showing up Saturday night to the Avalon for the Saturday show, to see if I could get tickets.

Shane fell, big deal. Shane messed up some songs, big deal.

I too saw a whole lot of booze sitting beside Shane, but aside from some swigs of the wine, he didn't seem to drink a hell of a lot on stage, and only had one or two smokes.

However, I left at the end feeling a little ripped off...especially after hearing how good Saturday's show was. Sundays show seemed very short to me. The beer (was that really beer? I mean, really???) was overpriced and tasted like garbage. The t-shirts were overpriced and mostly the same as last year's and aside from the ushers, the staff seemed as though everybody was in the way and not welcome.

People keep talking about "after three already energetic shows...".

With all due respect to the band, I purchased concert tickets. I don't give a damn what happed the night before, or three nights before. When I purchased my tickets, it wasn't the fourth show, it was only the third show. Hell, when I sat waiting for the tickets to go on sale, the Orpheum might've been only the second show in Boston. I expect to get, roughly, the same show. This year's orpheum show (the last show in Boston) was hardly as good as last year's first Orpheum show (the fist night in Boston).

Anyway, I had a good weekend, the musioc itself was superbly played, and Shane was exactly as one expects to see him.

The Orpheum was less than 3 minutes shorter than previous nights. We dropped "Auld Triangle" from the final set of encores because Shane was starting to feel considerable pain from his tumble. He has been walking with the aid of a stick ever since.

While i love my beer. i chose not to drink the $7 garbage. I had a bunch of beer Friday and none on Sunday and i enjoyed each night jsut as much as the other.

one thing though coming from Halifax.. there is nothing like Schooner and the beers you have down east in Canada. So I agree on the taste of the beer.

It's a truism that time flies when you're having fun. Maybe you had a better time at this year's show?

I was at Sunday's show and it seemed a bit strange for me. Looking back, the show was just fine and I now think it was just me that was a bit strange. At the time having seen the Pogues three nights in a row was becoming more than cool, it was becoming unbelievable. I still find it hard to believe I saw the Pogues three nights in a row, let alone had the chance to see the Pogues 3 (4) nights in a row. I think there is an expected physical toll a performer must pay after so many consecutive nights and it was no surprise to me that a few on stage may have been showing the wear. I was one of the quiet, gentle, standing-still people in the orchestra section folks have mentioned and must admit that I did very little to add anything to the atmosphere. But it just didn't seem like a silly, "lets get fucked up and shake to the Pogues" night. Rather, I had no desire other than to stand there and enjoy while letting the brain revel in the company on stage that evening.
And as for Shane that night, well, I thought he was fine. In a second I would state that he appeared to have ten tons more energy at the Avalon but he put on a fine Shane show. (One of the comical highlights for me –unfortunately- was seeing Shane simply give up while doing the White City dance). And in reply to posts that say Shane may have wrecked the show, I would say fuck Shane, I came to see the Pogues. Shane is one in eight dudes on stage playing great songs and each adding a mountain-load of character and personal sound to the production. Half the time Shane isn't even "the show" for me - its moments like the anticipation of Jem about to come in with the banjo parts; Terry's face during Tuesday Morning when his fingers really get going; checking out Spider's "reving-up" right before his yelling part in Bottle, or James with whatever the hell he is going to pull out of his sleeve that night. Man, what a great band.
So fucking happy they are still getting together and playing, so happy.

I also think Phillip's rendition of Thousands are Sailing is a MAJOR highlight to be mentioned.

My fiancee went to all three shows with me (our mutual love of the pogues is, no joke, what first brought us together years ago) and we decided, based on these shows, that our wedding song will be Rainy Night in Soho, as she cries every time she hears it.

Any chance the band can swing by our wedding and play? Eh? EHHHH? We're actually going to have our reception party at JJ Foley's probably!

I was at the Sunday show. I do not belive Shane was drunk. Give him a break, but not a leg break. I hope he is feeling better soon after that fall.

in hindsight, it is likely the fact that I didn't stand/sit around for an hour this year before anything happened.

It is likely also that the opening band this year was not at all interesting.

I guess you can only ever something for the first time, once. Last year's show was my first Pogues show. I was really quite emotional about it. I was also quite nearly drunk at the show last year. I couldn't drink enough this year to enter into my trance like state.
