Oh, the scalpers were in a white-knuckle panic outside. They actually tried to sell them to James, Terry and daryl as they went by! A friend of mine was giving two tickets away (he finally gave them to the door man at the Beantown Pub who was quite excited) and the scalpers were trying to shoo us away. You can imagine my sorrow at their troubles. Sniff.
Did the old songs taunt or cheer you, and did they still make you cry?

Scalpers, like Casino owners and Turf Accountants, rarely make a net loss.

Yes, that is true, but to see them sweat a bit...

Philip, earlier I asked if it was Ok to post a couple of videos of questionable quality. I did so last year without a problem, but Security this year made me feel the need to ask.

ec johnny's review as spot on...

as for others...If you were 'disgusted' by last night's performance, that's just a shame. Though passing judgement after three songs is ridiculous and not to be taken all that seriously anyway, I fear.

Shane is a big boy. Watch "The Great Hunger" and you will see first hand his thoughts on people meddling with his lack of sobriety. No one can MAKE anyone clean themselves up. Shane will sober up if and when he wants to, not a second sooner. Sobriety, they say, is for those who want it, not those who need it.

My only disappointment came last night because I had been fortunate enough to be in the front 2 rows for the Friday and Saturday Avalon shows. To go from that sense of incredible energy and excitement to a theater where half your section (and us six rows from the stage center!) is empty is a bit of a shock. I think it's more a testament to how INSANE the Avalon shows were. It's something I will never forget and will be hard-pressed to see topped. Even though Phillip said the crowd seemed OK from his vantage point, I couldn't help but feel sad that people weren't going as ballistic as they had the two nights prior. Add to that my total exhaustion and the 4 Ammodium AD pills, 1/2 of a bottle of Immodium AD and one full bottle of Pepto Bismol Extra-Strength I had to take an hour before the show just to make it to my seat, and the show was a bit anti-climactic.

The best moment by far for me was "Repeal," done right after Shane's unfortunate tumble. It proved why the Pogues are the best of the genre. Killer.

I liked after Shane fell he came back to the mic and said something like "I'm proof that alcohol kills your brain cells." Made me laugh! And I echo Corey's sentiments about Shane's drinking/sobriety. I'll really be happy when I finally read a Pogues review in the paper without making mention of Shane's past/present/future drinking.

I saw Fri, Sat, Sun nights and loved them all! For me, Sat was the "least strong" night but that's probably because I was in the back of the Avalon rather than dancing on the floor as I did Friday.

I sympathize with the feeling of people around you not dancing but don't think for a minute that those folks aren't having fun. My buddy last night, who's seen the Pogues here and in Ireland many many times had a great time though you wouldn't know it by looking at him.

Thank you Philip et. al! These past three nights were a joyous elixir that is just what I needed in the midst of grieving over my parents who died around Christmas.

Music hath charms and all that. :)

The bug database at a company I once worked at would return this message if your search query had no results:

"Zarro boogs fund."

I suggest you post them to please the masses. You can take them off if Philip comes knocking at your door with a sock full of pennies

Hey mike, you probably were right in front of me. i was in row c mezz center. I felt that the crowd wasn't as rowdy as the ga avalon shows, which i found nice. There seemed to be a lot of empty seats for this show, but maybe after four nights every one was tired.
I did feel that this show was not as powerful as last years shows at the Orphuem. Some magic was missing, though i cannot put a finger on why. The band played splendid as usual and i enjoy them every time i see them. Shane was Shane in my opinion, and he always will be. It is damn hard to tour and play gigs every night, and i give them massive amounts of credit for doing it so well.
Having a seat to sit in is awesome, though the urge to stand struck me for most of the night. Though i may have been the only on my feet in our box, i know those in our section were very happy to see the Pogues. I don't feel as old as i am, though my legs today tell me i am not as young as i once was, and maybe i should have taken more advantage of the seat last night.
Overall very happy and looking forward to my next night with the boys, when ever that may be.

I walked out last night after the 3rd song!

Thats quite funny to walk out after 3 songs of a pogues gig because Shane was drunk.
I once went to a strip club but left after 5 minutes as I was disgusted with all the gratuitus nudity

Geez, thinking back on a several of decades of live concert-going, if I had walked out on every performer who ever botched a note or screwed up a lyric, (for whatever reason) my personal vault of treasured musical memories would be barren and quiet, indeed. I, for one, would not have missed last night's show for anything.

Good points all...

To the disgusted one-

To think, by walking out you robbed youself of great versions of "Young Ned," "Thousands," "Sally Maclennane," and a beautiful "Rainy Night In Soho." Yes, Shane fucked some songs up beyond recognition, others were done with the beauty and character you'd expect from him and the other boys. You expressed your disgust by robbing yourself of the memory of some beautiful renditions of some beautiful songs.
