I thought Chicago knew how to get down.
The whole country has lost its soul. When I was a kid, shows at the old Ritz in NYC on 11th would begin at 10:00, and usually featured two opening bands, which meant that the headliner wouldn't hit the stage until after midnight. On the weekends, there were often three openers, and the headliner wouldn't go on until around 2:00am. It required total commitment, none of this prime-time "convenience" crap.....though I'm sure as the bands get older, they're ok with being back at the hotel by midnight.
Of course, the reasons for "curfews" vary greatly from venue to venue. As I understand it, the Congress Theatre is subject to an Illinois State Law which apparently means that
either it admits people under the age of 21 and observes a 10.30 curfew,
or it ignores the curfew and does not admit "minors" to the show. It could be worse - it could be one of those venues where the band has to be offstage by 10 so that they can
admit the under 21s to the disco/club/whatever. But "curfews" can also be caused by Union regulations, local bye-laws, residential area considerations and any number of other reasons.
And yes, the Pogues need their beauty sleep. And how!
