They did a story on infested New York hotels on one of the 20/20 type programs. The reporter caught the bed bugs in a glass and brought them down to reception. It totally freaked me out.

You will NOT stay at the Plaza, you WILL stay in a room over a Chinese Laundry on the West Side Highway with sticky carpets on the floor (of the hotel room, not the road).

Yeah, but I bet there are no bed bugs above the laundrette...
I like this bad set and I like getting drunk at luncheon.

No fuckin way!

But thanks. Yes, I was planning on staying fairly close to the Roseland Ballroom so I don't have far to walk back to my room.

Yeah, but the subway's right there so it wouldn't be a big deal. Check out the Milford Plaza in Times Square. It's no frills, it's cheap and most importantly, it's clean.

would recommend amsterdam hostel on the upperwest side. i think 100th and amsterdam. Always tons of people there. easy to get to midtown.
also there are some other hostels on the upperwest side.
From what I have heard avoid a hotel called marrakesh on the upperwest side!

Eric V wrote:Thanks Philip. I've heard that its not a good idea to stay in a two star hotel in NYC because they are tiny and full of bed bugs, and you have to share a bathroom. Then, bumping up to three stars, they are $200+. Looks like I'll be splurging. :)

I typically go for Expedia too, but NY is very expensive. Hotwire.com is a subsidiary of expedia and is cheaper. they prearrange pricing with hotels and offer at a lower rate, but don't give you the hotel name until after you book. However, they do tell you the amenities of the hotel offered before you book. You can pick the minimum number of stars and be fairly specific in terms of location (i.e. Times Square - Theatre district, or Central Park area. I have twice used to book hotels in NYC. Both times I was able to cross reference with expedia and figure out down to 2-3 hotels what I was going to get. Pricing tends to be better when not around holidays, so St. Patricks day might not provde the best deal. Last Year when I went to see the Pogues on 3/16, we ended up at a 4 star called The Intercontinental and I think I only paid about $100 for the night. The president of Iran stayed there last year as well when visiting the UN. The time before that was in May of 2005 and I got a place called Park Central across the street from Carnegie Hall. Both of them were very nice.
I also used Hotwire when I went to DC last year to see the Pogues and they gave me the Hyatt Regency in Washington, a few blocks from the Capital. I can't recall the rate but I remember being very happy with it.

Ok, in fairness, I lost out badly in the Hotwire lottery the only time I used it, and Hotwire's idea of "Theatre District" is not my own, but I have to say as soon as I complained to their central office, they immediately upgraded me to a real hotel, at no extra charge. Which makes me think this happens quite a bit,

Eric V wrote:Anyone else finding it overwhelming looking for a hotel? :? I'm doing the normal searches and finding there is a whole huge racket online selling hotel packages to show-goers and tourists. I just need a safe place to sleet with two beds. Hell, between myself and the guy who I think is going with me (wife out log time friend in) I think we could handle sleeping in the park pulling 50% security ... that's military talk for one guy sleeps while the other guy keeps watch. I'll be in this room for sleeping only, I think, since my wife nixed the hookers idea I had. Anyways, those of you who are in the know -- and NYC is new to me -- please advise. Thank you very much. :) If all else fails, I will throw lots of money at the situation and everything will be fine -- I'm going to see the Pogues and the Tossers, in New York, on St. Patricks day. :D

hey, anybody looking for a place to stay, the Whitehouse hostel in Greenwich Village in only 30 bucks a night. Good for poor college students and others. I'm coming from OK, would love to meet up with some of you guys and drink... Is there a consensus on where people will be getting ready for the show?

"Rocky Sullivan's" or "The Irish Rover"

Post Fri Mar 16, 2007 4:14 pm

Hey there

Is anyone planning to hang out at either Rocky Sullivan's on Lexington or The Irish Rover in Astoria - (two of my favorite pubs) either b4 or after Saturday's show? I know that Shane's been known to frequent both of them on occasion.
