Boston Hotels?

Post Thu Feb 08, 2007 10:06 pm

Can anyone suggest a decent, inexpensive hotel within reasonable stumbling distance from the Avalon?

There's the Buckminster (~90$) and the Howard Johnson (~110$)... but they are POORLY rated on Trip Advisor (and I mean VERY POORLY rated).

I ended up booking three nights at the Midtown Hotel, which is a bit more expensive (140$) and a bit further (1 mile) from the Avalon... but seems a lot better.

Every other hotels in the area were too expensive for me.

I'm not from Boston though.

If you're booking the Midtown too, It would be nice to have a "walking buddy" on the way home... since I'm by myself and will probably have a few drinks in a city I don't know :)

Hope that helps!

Midtown is a bit of a walk. I once partied with the dudes from Catherine Wheel after they played at The Paradise.
Buckminster & HoJo's are right in Kenmore Square. They're not as bad as the ratings state. If you're hammered, who cares anyway?
Kenmore Square isn't a "pub" neighborhood. It's Saudi princes, eurotrash, ecstasy and expensive bevies.
For good post show atmosphere take a cab to Brighton/Allston or the North End. Those neighborhoods have more of a pub atmosphere. Brighton doesn't have hotels but the North End and waterfront have a few.

I'll agree with Steve-o as Quincy being the best bet, where money is involved. The only problem is...the bars are open until 2, and the public trans stops before that, unless that's changed. If you're going to be well-cooked by the end of the night, use the Ho-Jo as you probably only need a bed, a toilet and a roof.
