Yeah I hope next time around the Pogues decide to play the Paradise or somewhere else. I can't stand the fuckin Lansdowne scene. I guess I'm just not that interested in date raping girls.

The Paradise is too small. Don't get me wrong it'd be a great show to see them there, that is if you could get in! Really, Avalon is probably the best place as far as venues in Boston go. Even with the bad scene.

plus...SonOfErin and Pope...it is an early show and with Avalon kickin' us out so they can rip some cash from the ravers, we can head somewhere far away for some more fun. I'm from Floriduh and i've done a little searching on line but haven't found anything yet. Has anyone heard about something else "good" going on that evening that might be a good follow up to the Pogues (beyond the pub crashing i'm sure the lot of us have planned already)? Just a bit curious?

An Tua Nua
835 Beacon St.
617-262-2121

About 5 minutes from Fenway Pk/Avalon. I forgot about this place in earlier postings. Kind of a Boston U hang out but better than other local alternatives.
Walk through the large parking lot across from Copperfield's on Brookline Ave. & take a left.
They used to have a disco in the back room but I think it's been closed for a year (Hopefully).
The front section is quite large and should be a great place for a pre/post show gathering. Decent food and affordable pint from what I remember.
If they're charging a cover, that means the disco is on. I'll give them a call tonight to check the specs.

Apologies for being vague but I haven't been a city dweller in 7 or 8 years. I miss those days. Watch it happen to be an establishmen frequented by the "Russian Police"

Please do not attack me as this is something of a legitimate query...is it called "Eurotrash" in Europe?

Phil, you are correct. An Tua Nua is the best bet for a Irish pub like spot near Avalon. There is a parking lot right beside it, and meters all up and down Beacon St. If the Red Sox were playing, that would suck, but they aren't, so it shouldn't.

Avalon Ruling on...

Post Wed Mar 07, 2007 9:26 pm

This might have been discussed earlier, I think it had been but I can't find anything about it...Does the Avalon allow cameras? Or should I say, does anyone know if they will be allowed for the Pogues shows? Obviously no flash, just curious.
Thanks.

you might be allowed a small camera but SLR or professional cameras will most likely be a no.

Corey Mac and i saw the Drive By Truckers there in September, and I recall people with their personal cameras. However, these places are notorious in their fickleness, so this may be a case of bringing one, looking around to see how it's going, and if everyone whips out a camera, join in.

Prior to the discontinuation of my harmful drinking patterns, I had many a run-in with bouncers on Landsdowne and can attest to the fact that one evening's rule may not be the next evening's rule, depending largely on the feeling of the security team as a whole.

As a humorous aside, in 2003 I was given a lifetime bar by the Lyons Brothers' staff (who own almost all of Landsdowne) and told I would be arrested for trespassing if I ever returned to any of their clubs. The aforemention Drive-By Truckers gig was my first foray back there. Sobriety is good.
