Some friends and I will be drinking at The Khyber Pass Pub http://www.thekhyber.com/ , a little punk rock club in Old City before the show. They always have an interesting beer selection at a reasonable price. It's a bit of a walk to the EF, but not unbearable. The EF sucks as a concert venue, I'd much rather see a show at the Trocadero.

Well, now since we can't even be sure that the show is going to happen, we are probably going to stay in DE until right beforehand so that we can get the latest word as to not waste a trip to filthydelphia if we needn't. I will see you at the show.... if there is one. :( :?:
salsa & ketchup, you tell me and I'll fetch em!

place to prep

Post Fri Mar 16, 2007 3:00 pm

Ok here are a couple of spots to get prep'd.

Whiskey Dix is the closest, right next door. I passed it the other day and it looked closed but it was probably just dirty. I haven't been in there but I don't think I want to go in either.

Finnigans Wake is a great place. One of the owners, Mike Driscoll, is a great guy. They have a $10 happy hour, 5-8 but I don't know what kind of beers they serve up for that price. I doubt its Guiness. And its a little longer than 2 blocks. Its on 3rd & Spring Garden and the EF is 7th & Willow. On a clear day its a short walk. With this rain crap it might feel worse. After the show Paddy's Well is playing headed up by a former lead singer of Blackthorn.

McFaddens is a block closer and its a nice looking bar but I don't like the crowd.

The problem with Khyber is it is quite a bit further for walking. I know they have a variety of drinks. It is a little tight on space and I don't know if they have any entertainment that early in the night.

The other places Tir, Fergies, McGillins they are further in town and you will have to take a cab or drive. Then you end up parking twice.

There are a load of bars in the Khyber area but you are separated by the highway from the EF. You can walk under the highway. Its still a little walk but its more variety.

Personally, before the show I will be at the Fireman's union hall. The prices are right and there will be enough room for everyone. Its only 2 blocks away. 5th & Willow. Willow is the little street just above Callowhill which is the big street where 95 exits. There are no big signs. It just sits there right on the corner with a door on Willow.

Take your choice. Remember to drink & drive responsibly.

There is no smoking in the EF and I think they won't even let you out and reenter to smoke.

Question ?? Is there another band opening ?

I've been trying to call the Electric Factory to find out the status of the show, with no luck as of yet. It seems the line is tied up.

Has anyone heard anything concrete?

The band is on the road to Philly and expected to arrive around 5:00pm.

I imagine that we'll know around 5:00-5:30pm whether they made it. That's just a couple of minutes from now, so keep an eye out (and keep an eye on the weather too).

A friend of mine just spent 3 hours driving home from the general area of the Ben Franklin Bridge southward to his house in Delaware County. My brother also took a 3 hour drive from Delaware northbound to my house in Delaware County. Ed Rendell needs to get all people that are not holding Pogues tickets off the the roads! Well, plows are allowed.

Of course the Borgata ran out of Guinness - the place was crawling with Pogues fans.

Really seemed to happen more than once ... even the Malt House or Malt Shovel or whatever it was called in Birmingham had no Guinness when I arrived there at about 5 p.m. :(

They ran out of Murphys as well. I ran out of sobriety myself.
