March 2007 Philly Thread -Meet and Drink

Post Tue Jan 30, 2007 6:48 pm

Helllloooooo everybody.

Just thought I'd make a Philly 2007 thread. Maybe we can discuss pre-show get together activities or post-show. Maybe rideshares. Setlist wishes. Even photos once available.

So, I'll start. How does everyone feel about the Electric Factory as a venue? It's bigger than the Troc, but I think the Troc is still one of my favorite intimate venues. I am glad it's not at the TLA...that's for sure.

The odds are looking rather good, that I will be at this show. I can't fucking wait. I saw them back in March 11, 2006 in Atlantic City, and for those of you who haven't seen them before, you are in for night to remember.

Yeah, I saw them their last night in the US last March in NYC. I am just stoked that they will be playing my hometown this year.

Start saving you money for beers b/c from what I can remember, the Electric Factory wants your first born as payment for beer.

Yeah, but the fucking Borgata hotel in Atlantic City ran out of fucking Guinness. No Guinness at a Pogues show, there's something amiss.

Of course the Borgata ran out of Guinness - the place was crawling with Pogues fans.

Really seemed to happen more than once ... even the Malt House or Malt Shovel or whatever it was called in Birmingham had no Guinness when I arrived there at about 5 p.m. :(

Tickets are still available for this show, which surprises me. The Electric Factory is a big venue though.

Blimey, did that happen? They ran out? Makes me feel not so bad that I didn't get there in time.
Though of course I was sorry not to meet up with the rest of you guys. :(

Sorry, that was nothing at all to do with Philly.
Likes the warm feeling but is tired of all the dehydration.

Thankfully yes, it's not sold out yet. Got my tix this morning and will be driving (riding, actually, so I can be appropriately intoxicated) up from DC.

Info/description on the venue for us out-of-towners? Like, where's a good place to be inside, how's the bar, etc, etc, etc?

A fellow denizen of the Keystone State!

I'll definitely be there, with a few of my buddies and perhaps my Sweetheart (she doesn't know if she can make it yet or not), and like everyone else, I'm incredibly excited about it. I too caught the last show in NYC and am STILL awe-struck by it. Not too often that dreams come true AND surpass your wildest expectations!

I've never been to the Electric Factory. I'm with you - the Troc is the coolest venue in the city. Did you happen to catch the New York Dolls there last March? This year they were at the TLA, which just doesn't have the same seedy, elegantly decayed atmosphere. It was still great, though.

I don't care WHERE the Pogues play - as long as I'm there.

I am not a native so have no suggestions for pre-show drinks. I'll go along with whatever is decided. Hopefully someplace with Guinness and John Powers.

See you there!

Lookie at what came in the mail yesterday!

and as far as meeting up goes, I have some friends from back home in DE that I will be meeting up with, I will let you all know where that's gonna be or maybe we'll just agree on one of the bars mentioned. Dark Horse sounds good except that it's way up in Northeast and I'd like to be able to walk or at least not drive far. Even South Street and below bars are a bit far for the Electric Factory. I am thinking something as close if not closer than Sugarmoms

It wouldn't be the first time. Or maybe there are 2 Dark Horses. Either way, Pogues on the Juke is a +, but I just want it to be within walking distance.

Why don't you register here so we can actually get to know who we might possibly meet instead of "guest"?
