I personally love both of Shane's "solo" albums but I always try not to compare them directly with the Pogues output as really, they are of quite different ilks. Yeah, they both have their roots in the same place, but the Popes sound and the Pogues sound is different, and therefore not directly comparable. Just enjoy these things for what they are.

Though going back to an earlier debate, of course "Donegal Express" was also originally a Pogues song (at least in demo form) and I would love to see that done by its originally intended performers. I think it had slightly different lyrics to the Popes version but I could be wrong.......

But to me it's everything."

As did NW3, which eventually evolved in Mother Mo Chroi.

I don't disagree. Bought both post-Shane releases and enjoyed them.

But much like the Beatles in their solo years, you found the odd good track on an album, but it was clear that they benefited from being together. The four albums Pogue Mahone, Waiting for Herb, The Snake and The Crock of Gold would've made 2 f***in great records had they stayed together.
F yez all.
