Chicago hotels near the Congress?

Post Wed Jan 17, 2007 9:13 pm

Hi there, everybody-
I'm flying in from San Francisco for opening night and I'm not at all familiar with Chicago's city layout.
Can anyone recommend a hotel nearest to the Congress?
Thanks in advance!

Your best bet is probably either to stay by O'Hare airport or downtown - the Congress theater is a few blocks from the Blue line of the El, which runs between O'Hare and downtown. The theater is in a residential neighborhood.

I usually stay at the Days Inn Lincoln Park in Chicago. I've already booked 3 nights for March 4,5, 6 for 85 bucks a night. Awesome neighborhood and 3 miles from the Congress Theater. It really is a gem of a hotel. The rooms are small, but you really can't beat the price or the neighborhood.

I found the best deal online was thru the Days Inn website.

Here is their website...

Hope that helps.

I also google mapped Days Inn Lincoln Park and the distance to the Congress theater so you could decide for yourself, but the link was too long to post.

What would you suggest (if any) near the Art Institute?

I've stayed at both the Hilton on Michigan Ave. (720 S. Michigan, I think, which is a few blocks south of the art instititute) and the Palmer House Hilton (17 E. Monroe, about 2 blocks northwest); both were good and relatively cheap. There are many other options as well (these are the only 2 I've stayed in, and that was about 5 years ago - before I lived here). If you want customer reviews, check tripadvisor.com or any other travel sites.

Amalfi Hotel is sweet. Decent location on W. Kinzie.
Runs around $150 per night but they have a free cocktail hour between 4pm and 7 pm. Free continental breakfast each morning. Really a top shelf type place.
Also, it's across from Harry Carey's restaurant and about 2 blocks from Webber Grill.
