Sell it to them... tell them it's the chance of a lifetime... tell them they'll regret it for ever if they don't do it... tell them there's a discount for booking early - don't know if there is, but tell them anyway. And if they're hesitating, kick their arses. Hard. You know you can do it. :)

Then you're right... tell them about the Pogues after they've committed.

Roseland Ballroom is where I saw the Pogues for the first time in the late 80's in support of IISFFGWG. That was the best concert I have ever been to, or at least that is how I remember it today. I discussed it on this thread: viewtopic.php?t=1118

It is going to be hard to talk the wife into this trip now that we have a young baby, but I will do my best!

i liked nokia because it had the stadium seating in the back. roseland always seems to have the sound systems way too loud. hopefully that will change with the pogues concert. i found that the roseland security were a bunch of assfaces as well.

I called the Irving Plaza box office just now - I guess they handle the ticket sales for Roseland. Tickets go on sale at the box office at Irving Plaza at noon on Saturday - $54 per ticket.

Chicago on my birthday!
Where the hell is Chicago?
Any reason it was chosen? other than purely mercenary reasons?

I've heard Henry Rollins talk about how he likes to perform in Chicago on his birthday, anytime tour schedules permit. Is there something special about the fans in that town? Anybody have more good reasons why I should brave the ice and slush of Chicago in March?

Thanks for holding it in Philly this time around. It was a hassle getting down to AC and the borgata is expensive. Cant wait for the show!

Hmmm - unless you were kidding - here are some details...

The southwest side of Chicago is comprised predominantly of residential neighborhoods, many of them home to significant Irish-American communities. Today, the South Side Irish Parade is considered the largest neighborhood-based St. Patrick’s Day parade outside of Dublin. It grew from 17 children marching around the block 27 years ago to an event that hosts over 15,000 marchers and 250,000+ spectators each year.

Chicago is known for its Chicago blues, Chicago soul, Jazz, and Gospel. This strong tradition of music and musical innovation have continued into contemporary styles. The city is the birthplace of the House style of music, and is the site of an influential Hip-Hop scene. In the 1980s the city was a center for industrial, punk and new wave (spawning the famous Wax Trax! label); this influence continued into the alternative scene of the 1990s, with The Smashing Pumpkins emerging out of Chicago onto the global stage in the early 1990s. Chicago was an epicenter of the development of rave culture in the 1980s even through today. There is a flourishing independent rock scene, including the recent explosion of Chicago emo acts, with multiple festivals featuring various acts each year (Lollapalooza, the Intonation Music Festival and Pitchfork Music Festival being the most prominent).

Sounds like a nice parade. Not sure what the difference is of a "neighborhood based parade" versus a "regular" parade but that does sounds nice. I guess the NYC hass a regular parade. It has 150,000 marchers and a couple million spectators. No floats or cars, everyone walks it. It also the longest running parade in the world, from 1762 or something like that.

sorry to get off topic.
