was that a spectacle, or what?

when Shane came out on stage i really didn't think he'd make it through the first song. but close to 2 hours, he did.
and Fiesta to close, with much head banging with cookie sheets, to boot?
Hilarious and wonderful.

Sorry to be off topic:
I checked to see if this had been discussed earlier but couldn't find a concrete answer. The Orpheum show is not 21+, correct? Someone has too much work and can't make it and an extra ticket fell on someone who has yet to cross the 21 mark. I figure there will be no problem but.....?

The Orpheum is most definately not a 21+ venue.

Live Shows

Post Fri Mar 09, 2007 7:29 pm

A Chairde,

Well it may be cold in Chicago but not so inside the Congress Theater.

It is hard to tell but the Tuesday show felt like it was really something special. What this just another night or or a good night or were they firing on all cylinders, and then some. The food and drinks were great. When I walked in (very cold) and saw them serving Jameson I just fell over and over again.

Last time I felt this good at a show was 1968 at the Chicago Civic Opera house where I saw the Clancy Brother and Tommy Makem, I was 10. (Actually there was several Grateful Dead shows that were just beyond, but I am keeping it Irish here)

Saw the boys at the Vic in Chicago around 1988 with Joe Strummer but Tuesday's show was way (way) beyond that one and that one was really good; it is all unreal really. When I think about it what I used to get from all those Dead shows, that ca•thar•sis thing, well this is the first time I got that experience since Jerry died.

Actually I did see Tommy Makem once not long ago, singing Four Green Fields virtually a capella and I was 5 feet from him and he is like 80 or something and pulled it off, blew me away and so did the Pogues on Tuesday.

It was crazy for me, it was March 6, I had my family with me (6 of us), and we got there early (actually I got there early and froze my as. Off in line) but I was the 6th person in line. Now if I was not Irish that would be some kind of bad omen but I am so, that and my black cat along with my Wife being born on the 13th, is all good. Hearing this group play their music and sing the songs is like a tank of gas for me, filled me up, sustaining. Hopefully it won’t be another long cold winter of our discontent.

Thanks Philip for your communications in these threads.

Is mise le meas.

The Chicago shows were both wonderful. I spent all of Tuesday night up front with my new best friends, Adrian (who was the only person to buy me a beer on my birthday that night!) and his buddy, Bill, and their lovely ladies as well. The crowd was as raucous and enthusiastic as I've ever seen, swaying and singing along to "Rainy Night in Soho", and "Pair of Brown Eyes". I tell you, it brought a tear to the eye, and a thump to the heart. It's been 3 days, and I'm still grinning! A fine show indeed - the stuff of legend.

We had a chance to meet with James after the show, and he was very gracious and had time for everyone who wanted to say hello. Don't worry James, I think the tipsy young lady probably forgot all about the viking helmet by the next morning.

A wonderful, but cold, few days in Chicago that will stay with me for a long while.

Cdn Steve seems you have had the real experience that one should have. I fear I am to expecting of something beyond this life. I enjoyed reading your experience, just plain real.

Phillip, did you guys have any discussion or thoughts about that show?

We generally felt that both Chicago shows were on the money, though last night in Boston trumped them both.

Sounds to me like each show is getting better and better. The 17th will be fantastic, as long at the green-tongued devils do not turn the crowd into unappreciative idiots. In Tibet they stick their tongues out at each other when they greet one another, to show that they do not have a black tongue. Might have to work that into the traditional Medusa greeting, just for that one day.
What kind of fuckery is this?

So, when I meet you in New York I'll know you by your black and/or green tongue and not the red carnation behind your left ear?

Congradulations really, it is hard to imagine as the band was so tight, what was better last night?

Understood, but not what made it better but rather why did you think it was better?
