Miss Walshy, get yerself down to Paris ( what a capital city should be) get those drinks from DzM, especially as the measures are bigger and the beer is considerably better. Easyjet or Ryanair for about £20!

Wouldn't be easy for me, as I'm without any car. I could take the MARC (regional train) from DC to a Baltimore venue, but I'd be hitting up you and yr wife for a ride back to the wilds o' Prince George's County.

And -- uh -- my immigrant great-grandfather (a plumber) and my electrician grandfather and father were/are DC natives and are solidly working class. DC's got plenty of "well-connected" white-collar folks who are soullessly trying to pump up their curriculum vitae, but there are plenty o' working class folk in DC.

Please don't make us go to New York

Post Fri Jan 05, 2007 4:02 am

Please, please don't make us go to New York. Baltimore or DC or Atlantic City (Yuck!), but not New York. We love you down here and you would sell out for sure. I'm begging. But of course, we will go anywhere to see you. We went to the Atlantic City show last March, and they had the balls to "run out" of beer (at a Pogues concert????- which only made us get more drunk from the wine and whiskey.)
Well, beggars can't be choosers- so we will do whatever it takes to get there. There aren't words to describe what it felt like to find out last year that they were going to be performing here, but when we got there and actually saw them- it was a dream come true. This is from someone who was introduced to the Pogues on a first date. I liked Irish music, and could only barely understand some of the words that first night (I remember looking out of the passenger window, wide-eyed, thinking what the hell are they saying and who does this guy think he is???) I think it was a test. I guess I passed, because I am a bigger fan now than my husband. Thank you for the chance to ever see you live, and if I ever get the chance again, I only hope I will remember it a little better than the last time! We love you!!!

Fair enough, Carol. I withdraw my broadly brushed sweeping generality about D.C. vs. Baltimore. I just like Baltimore a lot more than D.C., and it does have a totally different feel. And once we know when the dates are and sort out our plans, lets coordinate on rides and such. I'm getting some positive vibes on "going to shows".

I really do hope so, then I don´t have to travel that far, I´ve got just 15 minutes' by car to Gothenburg city... But it would be fun if they play in Dublin or London, ´cause it would be a reason to travel to there. 8)
(I really do love these cities)

Boston date(s) and Pogues in general

Post Fri Jan 05, 2007 7:34 pm

Having been a fan of the Pogues since I was in about the 7th or 8th grade when the music was first played for me (I am 24 years old now), it was a privilege and an honor to see The Pogues last March in Boston, MA. I enjoyed the show so much, I flew out to Vegas to catch them in October of '06.

The Pogues are an incredibly talented band live. They are great shows, but despite being a Boston resident, the Vegas show was better. Please, when you come to Boston, play at a venue that will have general admission standing area in front of the stage. To really enjoy a Pogues show, you can't be standing up in a crowded aisle.

Also, I read Phil Chevron saying something about not wanting to do an annual holiday show. I understand that feeling, and believe me when I say, as long as The Pogues keep playing shows, and I have the money, I will be at those shows, travelling across the country to see as many as I can.

That being said, it'd be a nice tribute, I think, to the fans who have supported you guys for 25 years now, to record at least one new song. Is there any writing going on? Is Shane still pumping out the poetry and the band still being poetic with their instruments? Is there any hope for that at all?

But again, if the Pogues decide they'd be a band that tours irregularly resting on the incredible works that've already been written- I'll be there front and center, every time I can.

You're welcome to come and play in my front garden if you like, I will write the setlist of course but you can pick one of the encores, and if you could all stand in your allocated square of lawn and nod your heads in time to my signal that would be great. And don't be late. Thanks. And please don't play next door instead because I actually really like my own garden better and theirs has crap acoustics anyway. I am sure this would be a sellout as my garden has a capacity of just 12. This would save money on security.

I am sure you must be pencilling this into the Pogue-diary as we speak.

I've wondered how long it would take me to crack, if I were to be in a band. I go to a lot of shows, and listen to a wide variety of music. For bands who've been touring for years and years (Sick of it All recently had their 20th anniversary tour). I couldn't imagine playing the same songs everyday for an entire tour, and having fans beg for this song or that song. And to do every year or so.

I think I'd be a grumpy old man after one tour :D

Yeah I also have respect for these bands. I play gigs and am bored with some songs as well. That's why I never udnerstand how bands like DKM and Flogging Molly play so many gigs and never get bored. They must have really boring lives
