Shamus McMaster wrote:Seriously, what is the deal??? This board is constantly flooded with Canadians flying all over the world trying to see the Pogues. Other threads see people bitching and moaning about how they play their city 7 years in a row and how they want new material or a new Christmas tree stage prop. Whoever, is booking the Pogues needs to realize the following....Toronto is the 3rd largest market in North America....The Canadian dollar is nearly at par with the American dollar....and mostly the Pogues haven't been here in decades!!!! How about a quick tour of Toronto, and Montreal a weekends work.

Please work out a deal to come here I know maybe you aren't getting the guarantee you want or some other thing. But there is a huge audience here, I am sure something could be worked out.

Canada is beginning to feel horribly left out. What is it???? We can CHANGE!!

Thank you,
Canada

If something could be worked out, something would be worked out. We continue to try.

A generous fee, a decent pillow, a reliable internet connection, wide availability of foodstuffs and drinkstuffs, humane flight schedules and on-call fast cars to and from the venue is usually enough to do the trick. Oh, and a tent for Shane.

The travelling distance from Toronto to Boston is about 880 km, Toronto to New York is about 800km. With today's cheap airline tickets no big deal. And hey, there isn't even a greater body of water in between. So driving is no big deal as well.

And the distance between Vancouver & Seattle is significantly less. Heck, we passed Seattle and saw teh show in Portland (about 800km from Vancouver) just 'cause we'd never been.

Mr. Chevron, I recently got a new pillow and you may all borrow it. Now I know you are quite many and you can share, however I got some more on the attic you can borrow or I can give my friends a call.

The internet connection is somewhat reliable here. Yeah, it's good! No problem.

I will make you all nicest, tastiets food. Local dishes? Sure. If not, no problem. We'll figure something out.

The same goes for beverages. Denmark is known for alot of cheap drinks. Both with and without alcohol.

A tent? Outside or inside?

Now for the fee... I am but a poor student but if the above mentioned things are satisfactory then all we need is some venue who should and THEY SHOULD be able to pay you any amount.

This is Spider talking about promoters recently from their myspace page.

The Pogues Official MySpace

The Pogues and the Union Scene have a great relationship. They pay us what we ask and we come and give our best. Thomas the promoter there says that other bigger promoters ask him how he gets us to play and that is always his answer. Our agent is a little more blunt.. "They are men not boys and they don't need to do this" is his usual retort to promoters complaining about the cost of booking us.

As we are an 8 piece we are more expensive than your average band. So to keep ticket costs down it is the promoter that has to take a drop in his profits. Rather than do this they'll usually dredge up some Popes show that Shane didn't show up to in nineteen ninety whenever to justify the so-called risk of booking us at the price we ask. For the record we have cancelled one NYC show in the 9 years we have been back together, after Shane tripped on Darryl's bass lead on stage in Boston and tore his knee ligaments.

However, we're all busy people with lives outside of the Pogues who we are lucky enough to be able to come together & do this every now & again. It sure beats selling cars for a living which was my last proper job and now it means I can spend my winters in New Orleans and my summers in Hackney, N4! Life is pretty fuckin' sweet.

Then we have something in common. I'd tell the story, but the most interesting part is already told.

Sorry, that post was just a bit of a joke I posted on the UK Christmas tour thread (sarcasm in reply to those asking for Pogues to go here or there), but one of the overly serious mods moved it here, to which it has no meaning, for me anyway.
