I'm just blown away that we are only weeks away from Pogues shows here in the U.S., and there seems to be nothing happening
The grateful fans going to shows months from now are already making plans. COME ON YOU LAZY YANKS!!!!!
Sorry, I'm trying

Very close to The Fillmore, and was once owned by John Lee Hooker. Those are two good plusses.

Any tips on where to go in SF? Or how about a good place to drink and watch the baseball playoffs.

Thanks!

San Fran is fantastic - try Vesuvios in North Beach.. I'm pretty sure they will be showing any baseball games..
Also, Jacks bar in Ghiradelli Square is quite lively, and would probably show it. Have fun!

I'll second that it's a good bet that Vesuvio will be airing MLB playoff games. When I was in there a couple of months ago, they were showing a mid-season Boston Red Sox game, and they also showed the World Cup matches on weekends.

Looking forward to hoisting a few beers with some serious Pogues fans in San Francisco. We're flying in on Sunday Oct 8, and have never been to SF before. Any suggestions from the locals? DZM?

I'm local only in the sense that I live two hours away.

Let me see if I can dig anything up.

There are a number of decent Irish pubs a short bus ride away from the Fillmore. Try the area around Geary and 6th Ave.; the Abbey Tavern, Ireland's 32, the Dog's Bollix, and the Bitter End (plus at least one or two more that I'm forgetting) are all within a three- or four-block radius of each other, and then you can take the 38 Geary bus right to the show (bus stops at the other end of the block).

A friend of mine works here:

I've asked her to come to the fora and say "Hi." Fingers are crossed.

Google seems to think it's about 2.5 miles. That's walkable in a half hour or less, and takes you through some very historic neighborhoods in SF (Haight|Ashbury, the panhandle, etc).

I challenge all and sundry to ping pong!

I'll be there (in the Bay area) from the Sunday to Wednesday morning. I'll be at the show on Tuesday. Please Vishnu, no kelly green paint!

Cheers!

Many thanks for the suggestions. I'll definately swing into Finnegan's Wake as well as the Dog's Bollix for the name alone.

The Pig & Whistle also serves pretty decent food and is on the same Geary busline. Its about a half mile walk to the Fillmore

Yes, we missed you Carmen. But where is Sheva? Singing, I hope.
