London Show and Meet and Greet

How did we arrive at The Canterbury Arms as venue? I haven't heard a good word said about it, except that it's opposite the Academy. There's loads of pubs in Brixton. Who knows, some of them may even have wheelchair access. There must be alternative venues. Any ideas, anyone?

Great idea, Michaelo, a bit of discussion is always good.
And seriously, as a non-local, it would be really helpful to know a bit about the local pubs, which ones are any good, and which have wheelchair access (this would at least be helpful to me, and maybe others too - who knows?). Even if the majority of Medusans decide to follow Walshy's suggestion, it would be good to have an alternative to save us from spending too long in the clutches of the Academy bar.

Oh yes. And one more thing (demanding firehazard that I am)... if anyone is going to, or past, Brixton Academy anytime soon, I'd be really grateful if you could have a look at the entrance and see what the access is like now.

Last time I was there (two years ago, see previous travelpogue accounts), the only way of getting up the steps at the front was via a pathetic, and ridiculously steep, portable wooden ramp thing which they put up for gigs. It would be useful to know if they've made any improvements since then. It'd help me to know how many minders I need to bring to help get me in there! :wink:

I know this is the sort of thing that most people don't notice unless they're looking out for it. But a bit of local knowledge would be great.

It's Miss Walshy's 21st Birthday and she'll bully y'all if she wants to.

FH, if memory serves, the only flat surface entrance at the Academy is the stage door, which is at the same level as the stage. If all else fails, we'll get you in that way.

Cheers, Fintan. At the moment we have tickets for Sunday 17th, so all being well that'll be the night.
