You know, it might sound terrible, but that is one thing that Im looking forward to. Given the cost of the tickets, I sense that the crowd will be a bit on the older/mature side. And thats just fine, because I want enthusiasm, not a bunch of kids that cant control themselves (please excuse the cynicism, its just that the past few shows Ive been to were almost ruined by kids who got too drunk, and didnt know how to control themselves).

I'm getting more excited with every passing day!

I have to tell you that Bryan's description of our throng is not entirely accurate, containing as it does both the aged but enthusiastic and the youthful and excited. I was just saying to Terry Woods last night, being a Pogue must be a bit like being a parish priest - the average age of the congregation never advances much, but the Priest himself does!

Haha! Great way to describe it, Mr.C! Though, judging by the videos Ive seen of the past shows, age doesnt seem to be a big deterrant in the group.
And it isn't too bad when there is a mixture of both elements in the crowd, it's just that sometimes, its a drag when youre trying to enjoy a show, and you get suckerpunched from some kid who was aiming for someone else.
I hope I didnt come off like too big of a grouch.
Hell, even I plan on, as the expression goes, "letting my hair down" a bit. This is a gig Ive been anticipating for well over a decade, and if Im this excited now, I could just imagine.

I should clarify- I am 36 and felt like that was about the average age of the audience. Most concerts I go to I feel aged because the average age seems to be 18-24. When you are young after a show you feel the effects of too much booze, when you get older you can handle your drink-but your body feels bumps and bruises more. I was waiting for this show since 1988 (When I missed the last SF Shane led Pogues show) and was not disappointed.

in my personal experience, I don't think that the crowd is made up of "kids who can't control themselves": I have the best opinion of my pogo-mates during a Pogues'gig! they seemed to me to be nice blokes who cared at least a little about a very, very short girl- and that's not so common while pogoing!

I left my heart, and a chunk of money in San Francisco. A beautiful city and we really enjoyed it. Except our legs are still aching from walking those hills. Wish we would have stayed there a few more days. The Fillmore was everything I thought it would be, and then some. Concerts were great.
But now it's Viva Las Vegas. Arrived today and we'll go out on a recon mission tonight to make sure alcohol is safe for human consumption. HOB is about a ten minute walk from our room. See you folks at both shows :D

I missed them the last time they played (with Shane), and also when they played in support of Pogue Mahone...so its an even bigger thrill for me! Ive been a fan for damn near 20 years, and it feels GOOD to finally see them live.

Now if only I could meet them, shake their hands, and tell them all thanks...

(This was post #1 for me too, by the way. Glad to be here!)

I'm not traveling far at all, which seems really strange. Two years ago my son and I went to London for one of the Brixton shows, and had the time of our lives. I rationalized that they would never be coming here, and we should go as it would be one of our last chances to see Shane and the boys...Never could I have imagined that they would be coming to the US two years later. We sat in the first row balcony, and when they hit the stage, it was a thrill I'll never forget. I'll always remember during one of the encores turning around and seeing the entire balcony on their feet dancing, singing, clapping and pumping their fists.. I think we'll drive out to the valley and take the subway to the Wiltern just to make it more authentic. We'll be on the floor, not up front, but taking it all in nonetheless..Enjoy!!!

Wiltern shows...

Post Sat Oct 14, 2006 6:24 am

My underage son tends to put a damper on my drinking before the show-but it's worth it to spend time with him and the world's greatest band. Besides, they have bars at the Wiltern, so maybe I'll catch up with you.. When I was 16 I wouldn't have gone to a concert with my dad, so the fact that we can is very special to me.

We were trying to explain the Pogues show to his very unhip mother and older brother, and the best we could come up with was-"When the first notes of Streams of Whiskey begin, there is an explosion of happiness." Think that sums it up.

I've been on Pogues forum before, but I think my name was deleted for lack of use. Shame on me....

How old is your son??...we're not exactly going to be swinging from the light fixtures...we've done this before in NY & I'm sure we'll do the same in LA...side tables...I will also have an underage member in my party, our designated driver ,in fact...so unless your son is 6,come hang!!

I saw the show on Wednesday, being in San Francisco and coming from the Netherlands. The show, the venue and crowd were amazing. After the second song the band and audience were one!

I have seen them several times in the Netherlands ('88, '89, '90), all great shows. But Shane was now even in better shape than back in '90. I really hope they will be booked for a show in the Netherlands or even at the Pinkpop festival in spring.

SF should be proud at a venue like the Fillmore!

Thanks for the invite-probably won't make it to MM's, but see you at the show. We'll be there Thurs. and Fri...I'm not sure he's going Fri, but I'll be at both for sure...

Molly Malone's at around 6-630? I think I might have to show up. Im always up for a good laugh and a good drink.
And it seems much classier than drinking in the parking lot. Ha! :P

I just went to the Vegas show last night and it seems like I saw more young people than the "Mature" crowd. I like that even though I belong to the latter because it shows that even though the band didn't make it "BIG" in America the emense talent of the band still attracts the younger generation which discovers them from their parents or thru Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys... I've turned a lot of Flogging Molly fans on to the Pogues.

That was an excellent show last night! I'm going again tonight too!! That was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Thanks for the experience, you guys were in top form last night, Shane sounded great and you too Phillip. I wasn't expecting it to be so good.

I had one problem with the House Of Blues. I requested the best seat they had and I got balcony seats which sounds good but they were way off to one side and you can't see the stage hardly at all. I would of been way better off standing in the floor section. I took care of it by finding an empty seat in the middle of the balcony with an excellent view.

Can't wait to go tonight. Congrats to Spider on his wedding!
