A poor tiny girl got her head kicked in at the end of "Fiesta" by some idiot crowd surfer. Attention, idiots: stay on the ground.

So sorry to hear that. What is it with crowd surfing? I've watched it for 20 years and never understood it.

...but in other news, I thought it was an excellent gig. Shane seemed coherent enough and managed to balance his glass of water for quite a long time. Really appreciated hearing Spider, Andrew, and Phillip sing as well.

Final encore was Irish Rover, Fairytale, and Fiesta.

I always figured it was some sort of prove-your-masculinity thing. (I'm a woman, so I can say this.) Something about forcing the people under you to bear your weight, knowing that the crowd probably won't have the nerve to send you crashing down! But in my opinion they ought to do so!

Yes, I used to think it was a Spray and Display sorta thing. That was before I learned that my young niece was partial to it too.

It's often used as a 'trust-building' or 'team-bonding' *eww, shudder, I feel so dirty* exercise by corporate brainwashers. Maybe people just like the sensation of being 'massaged' by strangers. Or something. :)

Hi Mr C. :)

She walked out by herself so I guess all was well, but not a good way to end the night! It's only Shane who's allowed to talk about walking in on feet and leaving on back!

Phillip, do you have the name of the man who was DJ-ing onstage throughout the night? Liked him quite a bit. Didn't really understand the Towers of London, though. Their music didn't go over well with the crowd at all. Seanachai and the Unity Squad are always fun.

That's the way I've seen it. I'm a somewhat short woman. It always seems to be big, sweaty, drunken fraternity-type guys who are doing the crowd-surfing. Many years ago, a guy flopped on me when I'd had no idea that he was heading my way. He grabbed and squeezed my breast as he was falling. Not a pleasant experience. I'm sorry to report that although I'm not a violent person, I instinctively grabbed a part of his anatomy.

Cheers for the update. Always someone, isn't there? *tisk-tisk!*

Like the Shane Mac reference. One of my (many) favourite lines of his...

The discman is DJ Scratchy, who has worked with us on and off since 2001 and before that was with The Clash. One of the talented moderators will no doubt guide you to a previous discussion of Scratchy.

thanks boys for an incredible show tonight. after being a fan since high school in the 80s. i flew out from l.a. to see you guys (and yes i suppose see some family) and could not have been happier. love that so many different voices in the band were heard, and that everyone seemed to be having a good time up there. and yes, the stage diving guys were a pain (did they really have to keep moshing during rainy night in soho? i liked the couple kissing in the front row much better) but could hardly put a damper on a once in a lifetime show. thanks for years of great meories and an amazing night!

please please please tour the westcoast. i'm sure the boys in flogging molly would be happy to show you l.a.

To jump in on a few things here...

The crowd tonight was the roughest of the four nights, at least in the front. Lots of craziness, culminating on that one girl getting stomped and two fist fights breaking out as the band left the stage - bizarre.

I could understand a little bit of the crowd surfing years ago, when it resulted in the surfer landing onstage triumphantly, then diving back into the crowd. Nowadays, with the security barrier and pit, all you're doing is getting tossed into the hands of security guards who promptly escort you out.

And the gentleman spinning the stax o' wax, etc is the one and only DJ Scratchy, brilliant DJ from back in the day. New York was truly blessed to get to enjoy him this week.

Damn - I should have known if I took too long typing Philip would beat me to it. What are you still doing up, sir? You've earned your rest, go to sleep!
