well i've been in some pretty fucking wild shows. but eh yeah i'd say the pogues wasnt that bad. im a girl and i was front and center the entire time, no guys were gonna muscle me out of the way. but my collar bone is pretty bruised up from the sheer pressure of everyone ramming me against the metal bar. (i went to the NYC show on the 16th)

I went to the AC show and since I'm only 19 and from the states it was my first pogues show so I will admit i wasn't expecting very much rowdyness aside from the usual drunken hooligans. As it were though, there were the few certain college age pricks (more than likely from the Philadelphia area) who decided to start some f'ed up form of moshing to songs such as sunny side of the street. Now excuse me if I'm alone on this, but though SSOTS is a great song I do not view it as being one to mosh to. Anyway long story short some prick nailed his head into my girlfriends mouth so I started after him but luckily he apologized and no fists were thrown...wouldn't want to possibly get thrown out of my first Pogues performance

The AC crowd was really obnoxious - pushing and shoving without rythme or reason.
NYC was strange - the first night was a bit rough, the next two nights were fairly calm, then all hell broke loose for the last night. But I managed to be on the rail every night, as did Carmen, I believe. Part of the trick is/was to not try to be dead center but off to the side a bit.

As for that look of death DzM mentioned - I have no idea what he's talking about.

I didn't think that the second DC show was all that rough until some drunk fool decided that it would be a good idea to grab my knees as I was pogoing. I haven't figured out if he was just being a moron or a sadistic bastard but he lifted me a good 3 feet in the air and slammed me on to the hard as hell concrete floor of the 9:30 club. I'm a good 6'1" and weigh about 190 lbs and I fell so fast and so hard that I wound up writhing in pain on the ground for a couple of minutes. I wound up missing the last two songs of the set and the first encore as I was being tended to by a paramedic in the back. After convincing the paramedic that I was fine, I had to watch the second encore from the back and directly behind a pillar. I was bed ridden for the rest of the weekend as I was unable to walk without crumpling to the floor in intense agony. 11 days later I'm still in pain as I have a fractured rib but I consider myself lucky; lucky that I didn't break my neck and lucky that I was able to see the Pogues play live.

I remember the 2nd night in Brixton and I was with you Shev and you were up at the rail and erm.. I don't know.. oh no it was the first night .. and I came down off of the ramp to find you to give you a Hug on Fairytale.. but you were at the rail and there was pushing alright.. and I had the urge to put my arm there so they'd stop bumping into to you.. It didn't bother you not atall.. after about 2 mins.. I said.. I'm going back to my cousin.. I'll find you at the end!! Do you remember?

I can't be doing with pushing and stuff - I come to see the band y'know? get a nice spot on the ramp and just stay there sweet as pie. Lade and I had a good spot on the second night I thought.. Sheva up at the front LOL.

E2A: 3rd night.. I was with brothers cousins and mates and for fiesta I dragged them all into the middle of the front and we went a bit looney - but after each and every one of them said woah thats like doing a gym work out .. and ew theres beer on my shirt.

Minors eh?

E2A (again): They loved it though.. really loved it.

I remember it all quite well, Walshy girl! But you know me - gotta be in the front. I just keep my elbows in, try to think of myself as an island of calm, and bask in the glory of the show. Works every time.

was at the st pattys show. I been goin to punk/hardcore shows for 10 yrs, this was my first pogues show, but i'd say it was very tame as far as things go. I was front and center, and was just dancin with my girl the whole time. Usually she retreats to the outskirts when its crazy, but it really wasnt bad compared to most shows i attend.

That - and not expecting the show to be a calm one, compared to Rammstein and thelike. My bad. My very bad. Next time I'll be prepaired - I'm not standing anywhere else than front row 8)

This worked for me on 10 March in DC. I got jostled a couple of times, but nothing especially rough.

I'll second that. Stood at the back rail for the Saturday show, and aside for the guy who boxed my ear while pulling the "I'm going to tap you on the shoulder to get you to look the wrong way" routine, it was the greatest show I've ever been to.

But what is it with my luck attracting assholes at shows? :?
I like this bad set and I like getting drunk at luncheon.

I feel your pain, haha. I have that same ora I guess - I got lucky this show though. Boston seemed pretty mild compared to what has been described here. I think the fact that the show was at a seated venue is the obvious reason, but beyond that, the folks there (those close to the stage, at least) seemed like they wouldn't have been roudy even if given the chance. Some guy's antics a couple rows up from me pissed the guy in front of me off so much that he eventually confonted and started throwing down. Needless to say, they didn't catch the rest of the show. I found the security there to be 50/50. Half were pretty pushy (perhaps just what theyre told to do) and half were dancing in the aisles next to me during Fairytale and Sickbed.

I was at the NYC show on St. Patrick’s Day 3/17/2006!!!
Freaking awesome show!!! Especially for a first timer. Unfortunately I was about 14yrs old when they broke up.

- Plenty of drinking going on despite Nokia's lame one drink rule. Quick question, I live in NYC and have been to several shows at the "Nokia", where the hell did this place come from? They're landing every gig to race through NYC. Personally I think the place sucks! WHAT HAPPENED TO ROSELAND AND IRVING?

-Rolling drunks in force.

-Lots of pogo-ing…not my thing, but given the days festivities I digress.

-To mrdarcey, not for nothing but for someone who's been to a Pogues show before, you should've known what to expect. Sounds to me like this show was a little less aggressive than normal, and you're still complaining. This is a Pogues show after all...not Barry Manilow. I made my way up to the front center when the show first started and there was a lot of pushing and shoving, but nothing out of the norm. I might have been one of the guys in your story, what did they look like? If you wanted to hold hands with the GF you should have stayed back...not fifth row center.

-I booed Tuesday Morning too. Eff Spider!!! Anyone who has a problem with Shane...has a problem with me.

-PS when are people gonna stop crowd surfing, I effing hate you people. Because I am big and tall I always get asked to help people up, getting tired of it. Also I always get blind sided by crowd surfers, like that night, got kicked in the face and got my lip split. Bastards lucky...if I got a hold of him I would have buried him in the floor, THEN YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN SOME REAL MOSHING, STOMPING AND BEATING.

-PPS To the band…STAY TOGETHER THIS TIME!!! YOU’RE AWESOME!!! COME BACK SOON!!! WE LOVE YOU!!![color=green]

That's a damn shame you got kicked in the face and ended up with a busted lip. If I'd been up front and heard you booing The Pogues, I'd have stuck a shiv into your fuckin' spleen and spit on ya' while you were on the ground......You Fuck!!!!!!!

Having been to the Brixton shows the last couple of years, I would say the pushing and shoving is a lot less these days than it was back in the 1980's. Maybe this is because the audfience is older now. However, there was always a certain etiquette back then. I've seen 30 or 40 people hit the deck simultaneously, going down in a heap like dominos. But in those days people round the edge of the collapsed pile would put their arms out to stop others falling on top, whilst others would help the fallen back up. No one had to ask for help. You didn't need to. It was the unwritten rule that everyone seemed to know. These days most people don't seem to have that consideration for others. They seem quite happy knocking someone bavk down who's trying to get up off the floor. Or maybe I'm just turning into a boring old fart, :)

No, no, no...there's still plenty of etiquette out there. I must have pick half a dozen people up off the floor myself. And I got picked up several times. Of course you get those assholes who just want to hurt people, but you can pick them out of the crowd like a sore thumb and toss them a beating. Just don't like crowd surfers, think it's a really selfish move, tons of people get hurt for these assholes.

And to the Guest...I wasn't booing the Pogues, I was at the front in mind, body and soul. It's a Punk thing asshole. Where were you? You said "if" you were in the front...you're probably the little bitch who stays in the back wishing you could play with the big boys up front. And what's with the shiv? What are you a spic? You'd have to use a knife, my 6'2" ass would crush you like a worm. Bringing a knife to a gun fight..."I'd blow your brains out with a pistol up your arse."
