For the first-timers...

Post Thu Mar 09, 2006 6:58 pm

Hi all. I'm a relative newcomer to the board, and a Pogues fan since c. 1998.

I thought I'd make my first posting a bit personal. I'd despaired of never getting a chance to see the lads live; I couldn't believe my good fortune when I bought two tickets to the 17th and 18th - a personal dream will come true, and this only one day after my 28th birthday.

I just wanted to say cheers...

Cheers to all the first-timers who never thought the day would arrive.
Cheers to the long-time fans whose excitement never died, and who provided the impetus behind the return.
Cheers to all the young ones (like me) whose first experience was the SNL episode - back then, i thought it was either the best or worst thing I'd ever seen.
Cheers to my mate Hans for dubbing me my first copy of RS&L
Cheers to the band, and the passion inside them
Cheers to Mr. Phillip Chevron, whose postings have illuminated, entertained, and have served to stoke the fires
Cheers to me missus, who sided with me in choosing Rainy Night in Soho as our wedding song last July, this despite the objections of her own mother ('The ginger lady by the bed' threw her, I suppose). She'll be with me all weekend.

And cheers to everyone else spending the weekend in New York City. I hope your visit is a fine one, safe, beautiful, and charming to the last.

Cheers back at you.

And don't forget to make a good impression to the bouncers at the club. Announce yourself with:

"My name is MacRua. I don't give a fuck about your rules!"

Then push your way past them and enjoy the experience to come.

Well, you made me cry with laughter. Somehow I think this might end up being the #1 most bellowed phrase in front of the club. At what point, though, do I ceremonially spit on the 9:30 Club, and where?

Right after you bellow this at the bouncers. Goes like this:

Bouncer: Can I see your ID sir?
You: My ID? Why?
B: To give you the 21+ stamp so that you can buy drinks at the bar.
Y: My name is MacRua! I don't give a fuck about your rules! {Hawk-Spit}
B: Please come with me sir.

It's a dream come true for me, that's for sure. I know there will be tears a few times during the evening....

the haze is clearing, and I see -- yes, silkscreeners busily working -- can't quite make out - wait, yes! "The Pogues" with that "I shamrock NY" logo, and "2006 US Tour" scattered on the front. Oh, on the back? "My name is MacRua! I don't give a fuck about your rules!" and "www.pogues.com".
Canta, no llore.
