Where's the party at in Boston?

Post Mon Mar 06, 2006 4:11 pm

Hi everyone. Driving down to Boston from Ontario to the March 15th show.
Would love to hook up with other Pogue fans and was wondering what bars everyone will be hitting before and after the show. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Whiskey River (excellent bourbon, by the way) there has been talk of a place called the Littlest Bar in Boston. Now , as the name implies, it is exceptionally small, but it is literally around the corner from the Orpheum theater. I will be attempting to have a few there, but it may be hard. Any other suggestions for a good spot from any other residents of the Comonwealth?

The Littlest is probably the most ideal, in relation to distance from the venue. I'm trying to be there before both Tuesday & Wednesday's shows, but Tuesday will be a stretch as I am working. If the Littlest is too full, there's still plenty of options. Boston is truly a walking city, so there's loads of bars that are literally a 5-15 minute walk away from the Orpheum. Among those worth paying a visit to; The Green Dragon, Hennessey's, Mr. Dooley's, the Black Rose (probably the best bet for trad. music before the show,) An Tain, Donovan's, and The Times.

thanks for that, I just registered to show my appreciation. I have found this forum much help in keeping up with the Pogues and now in making the journey into the city as well. good to hear the Black Rose is still open- I have vague memories of a bunch of us getting kicked out of there years and years ago (Jerry Garcia show at the Orpheum, mind-altering substances were involved...) and now that we are older and wiser (?) maybe we can go back and redeem ourselves and just have a few Guiness before the show...which BTW I can't actually believe is happening next week wahooooooooo I have been waiting for a looong time for this :)

Or, we could just bar hop our way to the Orpheum, except, I'm not 21 anymore.

yeah and from past experience I know too many detours on the way to a show can make it possible to not make it to the show (?)
something like that....
BTW does the orpheum sell beverages? just wondering....

That's a good question. It has been years since I've been to a show there, and was probably in my cups then, so I don't recall. A friend of mine told me that they do. Maybe a recent concert goer there will have more precise information?

The Orpheum does sell beer, but it cannot be brought back to one's seat. You're required to drink it in the lobby.

I am driving down from Ontario as well and can't wait for the show!! So is the consensus that most will be trying to have a few pints at the littlest?? There are some cool other spots around, having lived in boston prior to moving to Ontario, just for the fact as mentioned that the littlest is quite little!!

Well, being that the littlest holds maybe 16 people, probably can't shoehorn everyone there... :D

After Show Party

Post Tue Mar 07, 2006 6:16 pm

After the shows there will be a party at Kennedy's Midtown Irish Pub on Province Street. It is around the corner from the Orpheum (and across from the Littlest). Boston's own The Larkin Brigade will be performing each night.

Kennedy's is a nice spot in it's own right. I don't know why I always overlook it, as it is a very nice place. I suppose with the Littlest across the street, I just do.
That would be a nice spot pre-show, too, if the Littlest is overflowing.
